We had the ribs special and it was really good. The mashed potatoes and gravy were amazing. The girls who work the bar were really friendly and really good service. One of the girls greets everybody as they walk in through the door. It seems like such a small thing but that really makes a big difference, to me anyways. They have the outside seating so it’s dog friendly. Oh and apparently Wednesday is karaoke night.

Really clean, amazingly clean, one of the cleanest pubs I’ve ever eaten in. Food was amazing. Hot, crispy fries that don’t need to be salted to be enjoyed and the Rueben was amazing. Service was also amazing. We visited at an odd time of the day and were surprised by the freshness and quality of the food.

This place gets PACKED when there are shows next door. Food is nothing special but decent and when crowded, it can take a while. Service however is amazing. For the amount of patrons during show nights, these workers are a well oiled machine who maintain their composure under pressure with humor and a smile. They should be recognized for their abilities to juggle the amount of people asking for drinks, food, ketchup, etc. thanks for another good time pre-concert!

This is my 120 th review. I have driven or walked by 275 dining places on 2 continents. I have visited about 175 establishments. Anyone who has read my reviews knows I try to write in an easily readable format. I try to make fair calls on ratings and realize that it is my feeling alone and only on the item I have decided to try. High class food is not a requirement. Frugality in all things has stood me well. I am fortunate to get a good quantity of views, both in photos and text. Thank you for indulging me in this prelude. Now for #120. A week and a half ago I visited McGeary’s with some family before a young people’s event at the Palace Theater, an icon of the city which i have also reviewed. We had various items and i decided on a standard bar food, a burger and fries. I get my burger well done so it can be hard not to cook it until it is a hockey puck. The chef did a great job and it was just the way i like it. The fries were standard fries. All in all, it was quite good. I had a beer and it was a short one and it is pleasant to me when establishments have smaller glasses available. The were no complaints from the adults and youngsters. A good time was had by all. Our waitress was Chrissy, in the photo along with Tess, the owner, holding one of the kids artworks. Christy was upbeat, friendly and worked hard to take care of our bigger group, always with style. It was fun talking to Tess, the owner, who always had a smile, also says Al, inside comment. It had been a long while since I was here, and I shall return. I hope this long narrative did not bother any readers.

Decided to try this based on the reviews. I wish. I didn’t. So I expected an Irish pub. With like bangers and mash or fish and chips. Nope, they have an odd menu. The best thing out of the group that was ordered was the steak. The burgers were not cooked correctly and my son got his burger after everyone else ate, maybe they ran out. The fries were soggy with grease. The server was good and kept apologizing for the delay as it wasn’t his fault. Maybe it’s a better bar than restaurant.

Atmosphere – Great!
Food – not so much….
Between the two of us we had a Shanwich (chicken sandwich) and a burger, we each had fries, Mac and Cheese bites to start, and we each had a beer.
Shanwich – not a memorable sandwich at all. Just some chicken with cheese on top.
Burger – ordered medium rare. Fairly flavorless and the bun was dry. Good size but that’s about it.
Shoestrings fries – very tasty.
Max and Cheese bites – cooked from frozen, lacked much flavor, not worth $11+
Blue Moon beer – tasted gross, skunky, couldn’t finish it, and we usually love this beer!

Nice little place tucked away in a corner of Downtown. Food is okay – nothing exceptional, but the atmosphere is great…there was live music when we went (Diva and the Dirty Boys), with a small but enthusiastic crowd.
This is a place for Buffalo Bills fans, as you can see from the pictures…being a fan myself, I loved it!

We selected this establishment primarily due to its proximity to the Palace Theater. Given that a concert was scheduled, we were fortunate to be seated relatively quickly. Upon reviewing the menu, we observed a limited selection of authentic Irish cuisine, which we inferred was a streamlined, event-specific menu intended to manage the evening’s volume efficiently.
We began by ordering appetizers and explicitly requested that they be served before our main courses. The server, citing the restaurant’s busy status, asked us to place our full dinner order immediately. We complied only after receiving assurances that the initial sequencing would be maintained.
Our primary service frustration occurred approximately 30 minutes later, when both the appetizers and our main meals arrived simultaneously. An attempt to have the main course held back was unsuccessful as the server quickly moved away after a brief apology. Despite this misstep, all food items were served hot, well-presented, and tasted good.
A significant secondary frustration pertains to the restaurant’s itemized billing practices. First, the chicken sandwich was served without any condiment on the roll. We were subsequently charged $0.70 for a modest dollop of mayonnaise—a minor but perceived as a petty attempt to increase profit margins.
Furthermore, we find the practice of calculating suggested gratuity amounts based on the total after tax to be deceptive. Standard tipping etiquette suggests calculating gratuity on the pretax amount; while not illegal, this approach lacks transparency.
Finally, we were charged an additional surcharge for using a credit card, a growing trend we believe externalizes a standard cost of doing business onto the consumer.
In summary, while the food quality met expectations, the service execution regarding order sequencing was unacceptable, and the subsequent nickel-and-dime billing practices were highly questionable.

As far as authenticity goes, not so much. I’ve been to far better pubs. The wait staff is inattentive and looks overwhelmed even when it’s “less busy than usual”. I feel as though we’re on an episode of Hell’s Kitchen or Kitchen Nightmares with the service. Regardless, I have yet to try the food and will update when I do, but if it’s anything like the service, I won’t be surprised but very, very disappointed. Extremely disappointed with the food and service, hence I did not rate them. I will ensure that anytime I come to Albany, I will never return.
