Cafebrería El Péndulo Polanco has a very charming ambiance, though it now feels more like a restaurant than a library. Most of the space is taken over by tables, which makes it harder to enjoy browsing books in the way you might expect from a traditional bookstore.
That said, the service is friendly and helpful, and the coffee and desserts were very tasty. We stopped by just for coffee and had a great experience, and you might still find a book worth taking home. They accept credit cards, and it’s a nice place to pause if you’re in the area.

We were disappointed by this place because the photos and reviews looked so great. The food was very mediocre, however, and the service extremely slow. Their English menu had wrong names to menu items so we were served things we didn’t even order (we got a banana muffin instead of “traditional pound cake,” for example).
It was nice out so we sat under the sombreros but at least five different vendors and beggars came up to our table for money. If you want to check this place out regardless of my opinion, I suggest that you sit inside to avoid the harassment.
Overall an over-rated cafe in the middle of a wealthy neighborhood.

We visited this place on our last day in CDMX, and so glad that we did. Food is awesome, the sauce on the side can be spicy but tasted really amazing. Great atmosphere and service! The bookstore has many cute stuffs, so we got to grab some souvenirs home as well.

Environment is as pictured. This is a really nice and beautiful library to work in. Music isn’t too loud. But food and service were so terrible. We waited 20 minutes to be noticed to order. We ordered two cups of mineral water and a tres leches cake. The water took another 20 minutes to arrive, cake came in a while later. The bottom of this cake came smooshed in water, it tastes as bad as it looks. The worst dessert I’ve ever had in Mexico City. As I’m writing this we are still waiting for the check to arrive to get out of here.
Still a nice place to enjoy the environment, just beware that the cafe is totally a trap for tourists.

The atmosphere in this cafe is superb. Bright , large with two floors and even an old fashioned record store ( yes acetate LPs) in the middle along with a book store ! The food is great the attention superb and the manager watches over all the going ons optimizing the flow and efficiency. Loved the place

First meal in Mexico,and it was breakfast.No full English available if that’s your vibe,but some really well prepared tasty Mexican desayuno fare. An added twist is its a really nice bookshop,which also features live musicians ( when we were there). It’s maybe better to book,as we went on spec and had to eat alfresco. Nothing wrong there but it’s on a relatively small urban road,tree lined with butterflies flitting about,but also endless traffic and a team of guys parking cars for their owners who had better things to do presumably. Don’t be put off from people watching though,it was still charming.

It’s a cool idea with the library vibe but the drinks are pretty bad, not a good selection in the first place and the execution is worse. Got an iced matcha and it was brown (matcha should be green not brown…). They weren’t capable of making an iced matcha apparently. Pretty low bar. It’s cool as a book store with a place to sit and relax, but it fails as a cafe. The waiter wasn’t horrible but definitely much worse service than a lot of places near here.

The food and atmosphere were awesome! We went on a Sunday morning and it got packed pretty quickly. This place is a Polanco gem! Just wish they had a little more staff to handle the coffee orders. The coffees took a while to come out.

Very cute bookstore. Very hard to get a waiters attention. I had a moka frío and a cake. The moka tasted more like a glass of chocolate milk than a mocha, no coffee taste at all. The cake I had looked like it hadn’t been sliced properly and was extremely dense yet crumbly, the layers kept falling apart, on top of that the powdered sugar on top had somewhat melted into the icing and kinda looked like mold? Not very appetising. Very expensive for what I’m used to, but that’s probably due to its location in Polanco.

It’s an interesting concept with a nice atmosphere, but would I go back mainly for breakfast or brunch? Probably not. I wouldn’t recommend the fruit granola yogurt, the fruit was out of season, the yogurt tasted sour, and the granola was stale. On the positive side, my wife (a mocha enthusiast) really enjoyed her mocha, and the French toast was tasty, large enough to share, though a bit overly sweet. Overall, the atmosphere is definitely worth experiencing, and if you order the right dishes, it could be worth a breakfast visit.
