we had Amanda serve our table for valentine’s day. she was AMAZING! very personable, extremely pleasant and all around made our first experience at Char a great one. She was very knowledgeable on the menu items, and anything she recommended was delicious. I would definitely recommend her for your first or next visit:)

I have fond memories of dining at Char in the past. However, tonight I found the food heavily salted…very tasty but too much salt for my pallet. The interior is looking a little old, but the service once again lived up to Char’s reputation. Anthony, our server, was more than helpful and saved our evening more than once. The chef/kitchen made good more than once for my husband and myself. But my past memories are better than my current one.

Celebrated my birthday day here 01/31/26. Had reservations and was seated promptly. Amanda was amazing in describing menu options, definitely made my first time there a very memorable one. Lobster dumplings were amazing. A must have! Both of our entrees were great no complaints at all with food and service. Little dark if I had to pick something to complain about. But ill take it, considering how everything excelled.

The upstairs area was very intimate and the ambiance was elegant. The gnocchi and the tiramisu were to die for. The everything in the tiramisu was freshly made to order. The house music was so loud, you could barely hear each other at the table. However, the food came out to perfection and our server was very kind and sweet. I’m not usually a steak house kind of person, but I was pleasantly surprised.

On 2/13/26, my wife and I had dinner at Char for an early Valentines Day celebration. We were there once previously and liked the food enough that I decided to take her back. The good stuff first: the lamb popsicles were always a hit. So was the Thanish riesling and the tiramisu. Both of our steaks were ok. We spent about $300 this dinner and the first time we came. Now the bad part. The meals were not served hot. They were room temperature. My wife works in the restaurant industry so we knew the food sat before being picked up. Also our table was back by the bar and the utility room or closet, and workers were constantly bringing by chairs, etc. The first time we went, we were sat at a table in a little blind corner. Now I manage for a living and well versed in good customer service and I thought the first time we ate here our seating was odd ( we saw a manager direct the hostess to bring us to that awkward table). I thought it was strangely selective, as there were other empty tables for two. Then we tried this place again a second time. Still bad seating as before, even with reservations for both. We are not coming back a third time to find out if this was just a coincidence. I am Asian-descent from Hawaii and moved down here from Brooklyn, and my wife is white. We have been looking for a place with good food to have dinner regularly every other week away from our kids . This is not the place. We do not recommend. We will keep looking. I hope the owner sees this and revisits the restaurants’ service standards so they don’t lose future business.

Had a stellar dinner here last night. While the steak is excellent, all the food was on point and delicious. The tuna tacos appetizer was a standout as was the potatoes au gratin side. The wine list is quite impressive as well, had a really bold Cab from Mayacamas that was superb. The service was also very efficient and warm, just the right balance of checking in and giving us space to enjoy our meal. Definitely one of the top restaurants in Red Bank, if not all of Monmouth County.

Char in Red Bank is one of the most underrated restaurants in Monmouth County, and that’s coming from someone who eats at top restaurants locally and around the world. Service always wins in the end, and Char delivers that every time. My office is on the same street, so my wife and I are regulars.

We usually walk down around 4 p.m., grab two seats at the bar, and start with a perfectly made cocktail or a great glass of wine. The happy hour specials are always interesting, rotating, and thoughtfully put together big thank you to head chef Phil, who is absolutely amazing and a true asset to this place. The bar feels relaxed but upscale, which is rare to get right.

The dinner menu is both diverse and comfortably traditional, with nightly specials that make Char feel unique rather than just another steakhouse. Tonight we kept it simple and started with French onion soup from the happy hour menu, and it honestly blew me away. It was rich, deeply flavored, and absolutely delicious easily one of the best French onion soups I’ve ever had, especially at the happy hour price of about half off (we paid $5.95).

We added fresh bread service (no extra charge), and it was warm, fresh, and completely worth the “cheat” on the carbs. We then split a prime rib slider special that was incredibly flavorful for something so simple, it really over-delivered. For dessert to go, we ordered chocolate Nutella chip cookies and chocolate-covered strawberries, which was the perfect way to end the meal.

With two drinks, our total bill was $109, which is outstanding value for the quality of the food, drinks, and overall experience in downtown Red Bank. In my opinion, Char is still underrated and remains one of the very best restaurants in the area. Even their Caesar salad stands out the dressing is spot-on and memorable.

James the manager is a very nice person. Thank you Char! We love your restaurant.

Definitely a nice dinner. I felt that the cowboy ribeye left a lot to be desired. That being said, the apps were delicious. The spicy vodka gnocchi was my favorite dish of the night!! That meal made the night

This is our Valentines dinner spot for years. This year was the best thanks to Amanda. The food is always excellent but having the service we had tonight made the night that much better. We hope the next time we come in we get her again. Not only did she compliment my outfit but all of our food choices too. Again, you can’t go wrong with the food at Char.
