We happen to out in the area and needed some breakfast. We came across this lovely spot. It’s seems to be off the beaten path. Don’t let that stop you from making that drive.

What a great selection of salsas from the salsa bar. Our personal favorite was the avocado salsa.

Agua de pepino (cucumber lime water )super refreshing and ice cold.

Chorizo breakfast plate was nothing special. It was just like home. Nothing out of the ordinary just home cooked food.

The star of the morning, are the carnitas rich in flavor and incredibly soft. I did order one taco on flour and one on corn. Corn was my favorite.
Oh these tortillas are made by hand.

The food is authentic Mexican, none of that Tex-Mex stuff. We had Lamb and Barbacoa Quesabarrias, Carnita Mixta, Beef Tacos, and horchata. All these meats had a full, distinctive taste. The lamb is to die for. The rice is just okay and the beans were too watery for my taste. I will definitely go back to try the Costilla En Mole and Caldo De Res. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican, this the place to go.

After coming here several times since July, I can say it’s great, but a hit or miss. That’s why it’s 4 stars because there’s days it’s so good we can’t complain. We drive about 30 minutes to get here when there’s no traffic. The very first time we came here, we decided this is our go to spot for carnitas. They were SO good! We got the carnitas mixtas. We kept coming here often and it was good. Suddenly it started declining. They started giving big chunks of the tough meat and hardly anything else even though we order mixtas. One visit, we had a lot of bones and inedible pieces. I wish I got a picture of it. It was just too far to drive back. It’s been a risk going again because it can be pricey depending on what you buy. I can still say, when the day is good and the food is good, they are the BEST.
I’ve also tried their chicharrón en salsa verde and it was very good. The costillas en mole are my favorite! I haven’t had a bad experience with that dish. We’ve also tried their tamales and again, the first time was great. The next few visits were not. On one visit, the tamales tasted weird like if they went bad. Then they gave us mixed tamales. The red tinted leaf ones turned out to be chicken and the ones that looked like they’d be chicken turned out to be rajas. Then the last time we ordered tamales they were not fully cooked. Specially the chicken ones.
The most recent visit we did was great. The carnitas were good and I tried their chilaquiles verdes. Those were VERY good but VERY spicy! I love spicy so they were great in my opinion. I wish it was more consistent and not risky. Overall, it’s been a hit or miss but the taste is great on a good day.

Really good food served super quick. I had the Jamaica to drink along with two pastor tacos, and two Asada tacos. The flavor was good, I would’ve liked more seasoning on the Asada and for the meat to be more tender, but they certainly weren’t bad. In-house made corn tortillas, both red and green salsa both of which were really good.

First time having breakfast at this place, my wife had eaten here before and she said let’s go and get something from there, everything is delicious, and she was so right. A big menu with a lot of different dishes, plates, authentic Mexican food. I had the green chilaquiles because the server said this kind was the spiciest. If you’re not into really spicy food, red chilaquiles might be a safer option, although they’re still on the spicy side. Our server was very helpful, food didn’t take long to cook, and they have plenty of parking and plenty of space to sit in the restaurant. I will definitely be coming back to try another one of their many choices.

Blown away by the hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere!!! As a restaurant person (over 20 years) I am extremely hard to impress by anything but these nice people did that and more. This was not a destination but as we were in Arlington we thought we’d get some tamales and have lunch. Best decision in quite a while that we did. Our first clue was that this place was packed on Saturday afternoon (around 1pm as they close at 3pm).
You walk in and order at the counter. Friendly bilingual folks with a smile encountered there. To the right is where the magic is happening and you can watch it too! You are given a number and a drink if ordered. In addition to bottled Topo and Sodas they have Aguas Frescas which we got. No powdered drink mix served here folks. While you wait on your food (they give you a number on a ticket) you go to the salsa bar. The star is the giant molcajete with roasted chunky salsa. You’ll also find limes, cilantro & onions, pickled jalapenos with onions, etc. On the table are two salsas: A creamy orange habanero one and the traditional light green creamy taqueria one. And a roll of nice thick paper towels which I really appreciated instead of cheap flimsy napkins that it takes 20 of or more which really is not cost effective. Then your number is called and you are in for an unbelievable treat. They give you a tray and your plates from the grill area.
My husband was born in Mexico and we travel there frequently so when I tell you he said those were the best tamales (chicken and rajas as the pork were sold out by 1pm) he’s had in his entire life ~ that’s saying something! And I agree that they are for me too. He got a carnitas gordita and I had a pastor quesadilla and both were beyond excellent. The seasoning on my pastor meat was unique and so good I honestly did not need to add salsa. His gordita was in a homemade shell. Divine. There are no proper words to describe how good this was.
So good in fact that, since we live in Irving, we got tamales and carnitas to go!!! We wish they were franchised and had another location closer to us as it’s an hour from our house. That being said, It’s a wonderful excuse for a day trip to return which we look forward to doing.
