We came here to celebrate my birthday with my husband and his parents. They’re half German, which is why I chose this place. I wanted it to bring back beautiful memories of authentic German food. And it absolutely did. We loved it!
Every dish we ordered truly hit our taste buds. They even said it tasted very authentic, which made the experience even more special. We ended the evening trying German beers and sharing five different cakes, each one was stunning and delicious. It was such a fun and memorable night.
Our server (I wish I remembered her name!) was incredibly sweet. The service was fast, attentive, and thoughtful throughout the evening.
We had such a comfortable and joyful experience, and we will definitely be coming back.
But best of all was “Suzie Squeezebox,” a very gifted accordion player who walked around playing all sorts of tunes from traditional polka, Disney classics, CCR, Eric Clapton, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and many many more. We are a musical family, and she had us grinning, singing, and even our kids weren’t embarrassed by us gaily singing along! She was fun and upbeat, joking with customers as she multi-tasked by all the intricate notes coming out of her accordion.
We want to make a special trip back to CO Springs just to be able to experience this again!
Easy parking on-site.
Atmosphere is fun and cool.
Just go!
It was at 5:45 on a Saturday evening. We walked in about five early and were seated right away. We had a very nice cozy corner. There were people in the room, but it was nice for two, quiet and able to have a good conversation.
Our waitress was a tiny lady with a heavy German accent. She reminded me of some of the grandmas back east growing up. Dry and funny sense of humor too, and very efficient!
Keeping with the norm, one plate, two forks, we split an appetizer of Flammkuchen and a Badische Platte.
I also ordered the first of two beers, the Schneider Weisse Aventinus. It was wonderful. To me, it was caramel-like, traditional, smooth and a bit creamy. I wanted another, but then tried the Weihenstephaner 1516 Kellerbier. It was also very smooth, a bit of caramel to me, and very smooth. The Schneider seems a bit heavier, maybe a bit of fruity, but not overwhelming, stronger than the 1516. The 1516 was lighter and a bit more traditional. Both were fantastic!
The Flammkuchen was a mini meal itself. The bits of bacon and mushrooms, sour cream, onions and apples was a combo I was definitely curious about. It was super flavorful, with a melt in your mouth cracker-like crust. Almost hints of butter too. It. Was. Delicious. And filling!
The Badische Platte also had a small pre-meal salad. It has lightly pickled beets, cucumbers, and green beans with a traditional potato salad. They shared a plate but were separated. Each was yummy. The potato salad was not heavy with mayo, but made with it. Moist, sort of a mustard bite. Yummy as well!
We chose the Badische to split since it looked like a hearty sample to experience several classic German dishes at once.
The veal bratwurst, along with the spicy brown mustard was good and probably my favorite. My Bride thought it was okay, but not her favorite of the bunch. The rahmschnitzel was her favorite. The goulash came in third for both of us.
Not to take anything away from them. They were all delicious and worthy on their own.
For the grand finale, desert. Oh my! They offered a torte sampler. German chocolate, Black Forest and Hazelnut. All were yummy. My Bride had the Black Forest as her favorite and I, surprised myself by putting the Hazelnut on top. You can’t go wrong with any of them.
What a great dinner date. Left over-full of good food. Maybe even unlocking a new weight class! Great service. Good beverages. Great company. Thank you for the experience.
