It’s been quite a while since we’ve been here. We used to come here all the time in the late 90’s to the early 2000’s and for whatever reason we stopped coming.

Grinders came up in a conversation again while we were in the area. Came for lunch. It’s a seat yourself establishment. It’s definitely a local favorite. A lot of older gentleman eating here.

They have a burger special today and as we recall that’s we really enjoyed about this place. Comes with fries.
The burger didn’t disappoint. It was cooked and prepared perfectly.

Got the famous sweet tea today. A little on the sweet side. I did a few laps like I had the zoomies from the sweet tea.

We need to come back and get the breakfast! We will definitely be coming back on a regular schedule. Why we stopped coming I have no idea.

Thanks to a recent post in the Jacksonville Fun, Eats & Drinks Facebook group we were reminded that we haven’t been to Grinder’s American Diner in a while. It’s on the south side of Atlantic Blvd just west of 295. Fun Fact: when we got here we realized that we’ve both been here, but not together so I guess it kinda counts as a first.

I ordered the Pork Chop & Eggs platter, which comes as small or large. The small is one chop, the large is two and I’m glad I went with the small because one chop along with everything else was enough to fill me up. The chop itself was seasoned well and just juicy enough to where I don’t think anyone would consider it dry. As you can see, they give you a massive amount of grits which I had the option to add cheese in, so I did. I didn’t finish them due to the sheer amount but they were great. I opted for a biscuit as my side and it was very good. Falling apart but in a good, homemade type of way.

My wife ordered the Same Old Grind platter. She chose scrambled eggs, sausage links, home fries grilled with onions and wheat toast. She thought the eggs were solid which is notable because eggs are usually the thing she focuses on last with a breakfast platter. She was very happy with the home fries choice because of the onions being involved. She said “yeah, this is the choice for a side with this”. The breakfast sausage too as well as the toast, the latter of which had a little sweetness to it.
I’m glad we were reminded about this place. We need to come by more.— at Grinders American Diner.

At 7:30 am on August 20, 2025, I was pleasantly surprised to see the inside area of this diner to be as clean as it is! Even the men’s bathroom was spotless. There is no built-up of dirt in the corners of the floor for as old as this diner is. The atmosphere is a nice 1980 – 1990’s feel which I loved!! As soon as I walked in, all of the ladies behind the counter say “Hi”. This is my first visit. I took a seat at a booth and Ms. Sheri pleasantly approached to ask what I’d like to drink. The menus are on the table so after reviewing the choices, I ordered the omelette with mozzarella cheese, mushrooms and a biscuit. A side of grilled home fries with a coffee where also enjoyed. Sheri was very attentive by stopping by often. Thank you Sheri!! As time went on, all of the regulars were coming in. The atmosphere was very friendly and upbeat! The total cost for my breakfast was much more than one would have paid 4 years ago: $17.00 with tax. The saddest part of my experience was the outside parking lot. There was trash all over the area. My parents taught me that there’s no reason one has to be dirty. I don’t understand how one lives in such conditions especially having a business. The trash is overwhelming, unwelcoming and takes my appetite away. This is what keeps me from going back. 🙁

Typical local diner, great service, nice atmosphere and mediocre food. Cheese sandwich was very greasy. Tater tots and fries were decent. The green beans were either canned or were in hot water stewing all day. They were mushy and tasteless. Tuna melt was very greasy as well. Brocolli and cheese was good. The brocolli was green and al dente and well cooked.

I ordered a burger on Texas Toast. Toast was burned but they corrected it immediately. Came back out just right and was one of the best burgers I have ever had, it was cooked pink in middle like I asked and was fantastic. Wife ordered breakfast, chicken fried chicken and eggs. The egg whites were over cooked as well, brown and crunchy but she cut most of that away. She said hers tasted great as well. Server was nice and polite. A bit hard to get her attention but they were very busy so we understand that. Overall good experience and we will be back.

The cheese grits were cold. The cheese and butter never melted. The porkchop was disgusting as well. Sent the plate back and was told I had to pay 50% of my meal even though I didn’t eat it. The service was good despite the kitchen not cooking meals properly. I’m very annoyed and it ruined my Valentine’s date with my kids.

My husband and I went for breakfast, and it was great! The food and service were both wonderful. Plenty of parking and pricing is pretty good. We paid about $45 for both of our plates and adding a side to each of our plates, and drinks. The pancakes are the size of your face lol. Great experience ☀️☕️

Nice local diner style restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff. Food was ok. Biscuits were large but doughy and gravy was peppery but not very warm and thick and over $10. Same Old Grind basic breakfast was basic. Prices very high! Was going to get cheese grits but bowl was $4.50 and additional $1.80 for cheese.
