From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect—the atmosphere, the food, the service, and especially the personal touch from the owners. We hosted my daughter’s 21st birthday celebration here, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
Whitney and her husband (I think his name is Semir—sorry if I got it wrong!) were beyond accommodating. They met with us beforehand, were easy to work with, and made sure every detail was just right. The prices were fair, and the portions were so generous—it felt like we got way more food than we ordered. And let me tell you: the food was INCREDIBLE. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about it!
We were given full freedom to decorate the patio as we liked, even though there was already a beautiful flower wall and a neon “Happy Birthday” sign. My daughter wanted a balloon bouquet and banner, and they welcomed it with open arms and helped with materials we forgot to hang the sign.
The bartenders were amazing—so friendly, helpful, and on point all night. We truly felt like royalty. I kept introducing Whitney and her husband to everyone—they’re just that cool and genuine.
The VIBE of The BOX is unmatched. I can’t wait to come back for lunch or dinner. If you’re thinking about going—GO. NOW. You won’t regret it.

I recently threw a surprise birthday party for my boyfriend at The Box in Iowa City, and it couldn’t have gone better. We rented the space for two hours, had bottle service and cupcakes, and from start to finish, the entire experience was seamless and thoughtfully executed.
The owners of The Box (Whitney and Server), as well as the staff, truly went above and beyond for this event. Without me even asking, they had set up various “Happy Birthday” visuals and LED signs, creating the exact atmosphere I had hoped for. It was clear they put in effort to make sure every detail was just right.
They also personally DJ’d the night and curated music around my boyfriend’s favorite artists which added such a fun and personalized element to the evening. They were constantly checking in to make sure everything was running smoothly, and their energy, friendliness, and professionalism made the whole night feel effortless.
I couldn’t have asked for a better environment or team to help make the night so memorable. I highly recommend The Box for any private event or celebration. You can tell it’s a place that genuinely cares about creating a great experience.

I love the box! The atmosphere is amazing, and the music is aways great! The Box is a great place to spend your night, and I would recommend the food and drinks to everyone in Iowa City! Personally, I think the Chicken tacos are the best!

Stay with me on this review! My wife and I stopped into the box to have a drink while waiting for our dinner reservations next door. We met a man behind the bar with a thick black beard and a slight accent (owner?) Without going into long details about our drink saga, this guy was simply awesome. He treated us so well. We felt so loved by the hospitality he showed us. He has a great story about what brought him to Iowa City and Iowa in general. Thank you so much

Genuinely the worst bar in this city! I live 2 blocks away and evey weekend I have to hear their loud music till 2 am. It would be okay if it was a fun bar where people went but I’ve never meant someone who actually liked the place or wanted to go. The place is always empty and they solely survive off party’s/events. Please

All of my friends and I LOVE The Box! It is a great place to meet friends for dinner, dance, or even watch The Bachelor!
My husband and I held our wedding reception after party here and it was more than we even could’ve asked for. The owners are such incredible people who truly care to make connections in the community and care for their guests.

If I could rate this place a 100/100 I would! The owners Whitney & Server, provide nothing but great service and atmosphere. Environment is top notch, and it WILL leaving you grooving on the way out. They play the best house & EDM music in town. You must try their margarita pitchers and Peruvian Chicken Tacos. Also, couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunities they’ve given me as a DJ at their establishment.

Sure the place was cute but me and my family of 4 were there and we were the only people there. It took an hour for our food to come. The chicken wrap was very dry. The BLT that is supposed to have mayo, had no mayo. The drinks were very watered down. I do not recommend
