We LOVE Taqueria Chingon! They had the best tacos and tres leches cake we’ve ever had! If you are in Chicago, you absolutely NEED to go here! It is a gem. They have a very fun atmosphere and the food is all very fresh.

Incredible experience. Tried the duck and I’ll be coming back exclusively for that (not even local, so whenever I come back) The steak was phenomenal, medium rare per chef recommendations. Taco Tuesday is a great deal — 3 tacos, rice and beans, churros and a drink for $20. I’ve never had churros that were so fluffy. 10/10.

TLDR – Great but pricey
For a guy that enjoys tacos but believes in a $3-4, I had high expectations here given the prices.
The chips come out warm, and my wife loves avocados and guac really appreciated it. It was good but for $15 I was wanting more guac
I was pleasantly surprised when they asked me what level cook we wanted on our steak tacos.
Steak tacos cooked beautifully the correct temperature with delicious chimichurri sauce and tender to the bite.
The shrimp taco, or at the least the first and last bites I got of it, was amazing. So much so, my not so hungry wife ate majority of it. Skipping over the steak taco I offered
The duck carnita was flavorful – tropical – just not for my taste buds.
Not sure if it’s the Fulton Market street tax but they just barely meet expectations to price.
Dine and Enjoy!

Came in planning to try their tacos, but their steak fries special caught my eye and I couldn’t pass it up and I’m so glad I didn’t. Probably some of the best steak fries I’ve had. The portion was huge, though I wouldn’t have minded a little more steak to go with that mountain of fries. Everything tasted fresh and really well done. I also tried their pineapple juice, which was great. The tacos do seem a bit on the pricey side, but I’d still give them a try next time. Loved the mural art and the taqueria-style decor inside. Customer service was friendly and welcoming too. I’d definitely come back.

Wow! Really really good. Reasonable prices and delicious tacos. Had the Campanero, the Gobernador and Duck Carnitas – all were great but the Gobernador stole my heart!! Really really delicious. Looking forward to eating here many more times. My new favorite taco spot. Thank you Taqueria Chingon.

Very solid tacos, great salsas, fresh corn tortillas and the meat was seasoned well.
Surprisingly… I didn’t care for the duck carnitas. It was very crispy, which in hindsight makes sense, but I expected it to be more meaty.
I would go for the al pastor, chorizo, or carne asada – the classics won’t go wrong. And they’re cheaper!

The sauces are quite delicious. The cheese in the Shrimp Gobernador is so flavorful that the shrimp’s taste is somewhat diminished. The tortillas are very good.

These are the best tacos in Chicago. High quality, premium ingredients, fresh thick tortillas. This place is a stark difference from your average taco joint. The creativity of the chefs really shines through in the combinations – bold yet authentic flavors, perfectly seasoned. It’s hard to go wrong with anything on the menu. Between the two of us, we devoured seven tacos plus churros albeit two tacos is probably sufficient!
Tried:
– Carne asada using prime skirt steak, medium rare with chipotle chimichurri. This is the best carne asada taco I’ve ever had.
– Duck carnitas
– Shrimp gobernador
– Artichoke, light, crisp, the loveliest of the tacos
– Special Arabe oanaqueno
– Al pastor
– Campecheno
– Melt in your mouth churros

Truly upset at myself for not asking for a refund. The Poseidon tacos are $13 EACH. Insane for how little octopus you get (after pushing the onion and cilantro aside). And I understand that octopus is a more expensive protein, I wasn’t expecting a cheap price. But for $13 you can have higher expectations. It was dry, lacked flavor. I can’t believe this plate is close to $30. Total waste of money. My bf got a quesadilla and while the tortilla was fine the protein we added (for extra) was soooo dry, like to the point we couldn’t chew it well. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all. I don’t know if we got two bad menu items or what but this place was such a let down.
