First time checking this place out. We really liked the atmosphere. It’s a 95 year old place. Very clean. The male bartender was good. The fish sandwich, onion rings, and fried zucchini were very good. The salad was just ok which is the reason for the 4 stars. The tomatoes and cucumbers were on the end of their life span.

I have been reading the Reviews of this Restaurant and was heartened to see that other reviewers had the same experience as I did–i.e., bad attitude of waitstaff. I had been going to Grant’s Bar for many years and had always been treated courteously by Celeste, Missy & Nancy. The food was always excellent and the service was very good for which I had always overtipped. One day, however, I sat in Nancy’s section. I had finished my meat and was reading my book. Two women in the both behind me were chatting. One of the women who was seated immediately in back of me kept bouncing against the back of the booth rather violently which I felt. I turned back several times but said nothing. Finally, she bounced against the back of the booth so violently that I went forward and struck my forehead on the table. My book also fell off the table. I turned around and looked but said nothing. Suddenly, one of the servers, BJ, came over and started screaming at me that I was “not being nice to the customers” and that if I was not “being nice to the customers” that I should leave. She repeated this diatribe several times after which I asked her to leave. Two minutes later BJ returned and repeated her ranting monologue. I again asked her to leave. This was not even BJ’s Section. Nevertheless, it did seem apparent to me that the women in the booth behind me were friends of hers. I called for my check. After paying, I got up and turned around to see what the two women in the back were doing. Both were silent, and the one who was performing her bouncing contortions had her head down. Apparently, the truth of other customers’ review comments that the servers give preference and show favoritism to their friends is borne out here. I have not been back since and will not return unless or until BJ is no longer employed there. If the restaurant is sold to a new owner who maintains the establishment as a restaurant, the first order of business, I believe, is to develop and enforce a policy of staff behavior which disallows rude behavior towards any customer or which displays favoritism of one customer over another, with the sanction of immediate termination of that employee.

We loved our recent stop here. They are famous for their shrimp but wife raved about the prime rib. Our server Jackie was excellent!

Local bar with pleasant service and usually quiet atmosphere. The fish sandwiches are the best in Pittsburgh. Huge portions. Tasty breadcrumb coating. Fried just right. Also the fried zucchini is best in Pittsburgh. Hand sliced. Dipped in parmesan/ bread crumbs. Fried just right. This is old time and authentic bar. Experience the real Pittsburgh in a safe neighborhood, and a friendly bar.

If you happen to be in Millvale, Grant Bar is the go-to restaurant. All of the staff there are so friendly and the food is good and affordable. I especially love their coleslaw and coconut cream pie.

The ladies who worked there were truly miserable. The coconut cream pie was good and the plate of mushroom was delicious but the roast beef wasn’t good. I wouldn’t go back

My wife and I got cauliflower bites and mushroom caps with crab meat. It took us an hour from ordering food to leaving. It took forever for the waitress to take any orders and get the check. The average age of the dining area is closer to 70. The food was decent but nothing to write home about. I would never return here
