Reviews
Wow! I finally tried this Hunan restaurant in Alhambra, and it’s perfect when you’re craving bold, flavorful dishes that go great with rice. Plus, it’s super close to my home!
The restaurant has a lively, classic Chinese dining vibe, with lanterns and wooden tables creating a warm atmosphere. During peak hours the place is basically full, and it feels like many customers are regulars.
Here’s what we ordered
Hunan Stir-Fried Pork
This dish is really authentic! The pork belly and green peppers are stir-fried with strong wok aroma, spicy and super satisfying with rice.
Mashed Chili Eggplant
This one was a surprise favorite. The chili aroma is strong, and the eggplant is soft and well-seasoned. Mixing everything together makes it incredibly flavorful.
Spicy Tiger Shrimp
The shrimp are big and juicy. The spice is balanced with a bit of garlic fragrance—rich but not overwhelming.
Steamed Egg with Minced Pork
Perfect comfort dish with rice. The egg is silky smooth, and the savory minced pork adds just the right amount of flavor.
Stir-Fried Celtuce (Chinese Lettuce Stem)
After all the spicy dishes, this fresh and crunchy vegetable dish helps balance the meal.
Hot and Sour Chicken Giblets
Tangy, spicy, and very appetizing with a great mix of textures—perfect for people who enjoy bold flavors.
Overall, it’s the kind of Hunan restaurant that’s perfect for sharing a full table of dishes with friends, taking your time and enjoying each plate. Everything pairs amazingly well with rice, and if you love spicy food, you’ll definitely want to come back!
The moment you walk in, you immediately feel the authentic street-style vibe. Red brick walls, wooden tables and chairs, warm lighting, and decorations inspired by harvest and grains — it almost feels like a neighborhood Hunan restaurant you’d find back in China has been brought straight to LA.
The signature of Hunan cuisine is simple: fragrant, spicy, fresh, and incredibly appetizing with rice. Every dish carries that irresistible wok aroma (锅气) that makes you want to keep eating.
We ordered four of their signature dishes, and honestly, every one of them delivered.
Hunan Preserved Mustard Greens with Braised Pork Belly
The pork belly was perfectly layered with fat and lean meat, steamed until soft and tender. The preserved mustard greens absorbed all the rich pork juices, creating a savory, slightly spicy flavor with just a hint of sweetness. It literally melts in your mouth — the ultimate rice killer dish.
Stir-fried Yellow Beef (Xiao Chao Huang Niu Rou)
A must-order at any Hunan restaurant. The beef was sliced thin and stir-fried over high heat, giving it that signature smoky wok flavor. The meat stays tender and juicy, with a bold spicy kick that isn’t overwhelming.
Tea Oil “Bandit” Chicken
Cooked with traditional tea oil, the chicken has a very distinctive aroma. The free-range chicken is firm and chewy, stir-fried with chilies and garlic — a dish full of bold, rustic Hunan character.
Braised Sea Bass
The portion is huge. The sea bass skin is slightly crispy while the inside remains delicate and tender. The sauce is rich but not greasy, with a gentle hint of spice and garlic that makes the whole dish incredibly satisfying.
Being able to find such authentic, smoky, street-style Hunan cuisine in Los Angeles is honestly a pleasant surprise.
We ordered several dishes including the double crispy stir fry, Hunan stir-fried pork, perilla frog, century egg eggplant, and beer duck — honestly not a single miss. Everything had great wok flavor and bold, authentic Hunan spice.
It’s not a fancy spot, but the food is seriously good and super satisfying. If you like spicy, flavorful Chinese food, this place is definitely worth trying.
The cauliflower with pork cracklings was super fragrant, and overall the dishes had a nice spicy Hunan style that made the meal really enjoyable.
Moreover, the prices were very reasonable. I ordered five dishes for less than 100 dollar. And the portions were not small at all.
Highly recommended the“hunan spicy stir-fried pork”. There’s a generous amount of meat. The cooking is just right, and the meat is very tasty and not greasy at all.
My favorite dish is “spicy chicken giblets”. If you love sour and spicy flavor, you must try this. It’s super delicious when mixed with rice. It’s not oily at all and very dry and crispy. I love it!
The “signature chopped chili fish head”, “Liuyang-style steamed pork ribs”, and “spicy stir-fried pork kidney & tripe” are also pretty good
Their dried chili flavor is different from other Hunan spots, in a really good way. It’s hard to describe but super addictive. The smoked pig blood sausage was also something I’ve never seen before at other restaurants — very unique and really tasty.
So happy we have such a great Hunan restaurant here in St. Gabriel. Definitely coming back!
