We stopped at Manteigaria after dinner on the recommendation of a friendly waiter at a restaurant we really liked. It was definitely worth the walk up the hill from the restaurant. The pastel de nata custard tarts were delectable. We quickly devoured two each, saving one each for breakfast.

We were able to watch the staff make the pastel de natas.

We will definitely be back!

I absolutely loved the Pastel de nata at Manteigaria in Lisbon! The crust is perfectly crispy and flaky, while the custard is rich, creamy, and melts in your mouth. Watching them being freshly baked is amazing, and sipping one with a Ginja makes the experience unforgettable. This place is a true paradise for anyone wanting to enjoy an authentic Portuguese treat – I will definitely be coming back!

What else could I say about the pastéis de nata ? Only that you have to eat them in Lisbon
I step in to this Manteigaria after having lunch looking for my sweet treat and I found it
I asked for two pastéis (1.5€ each) and a hot chocolate. The staff were very friendly and warm. Don’t miss it.

They’re all over Lisbon, and if you can’t make it to Pastéis de Belém in the Belém district, this bakery is a great alternative for enjoying the famous pastel de nata. The crust was flaky and perfectly complemented the soft, creamy custard filling.

We ended up buying several boxes to take home with us, and they made great gifts. Convenient, delicious, and a solid option when you’re craving a classic Portuguese treat.

The egg tarts were one of the best we had in Lisbon! You can even see the workers making the tarts which was very cool to see. The only issue is that this location doesn’t have much space to stand. But it is worth it since the pastel de natas are soo good

Hands down, the best pastel de nata I’ve ever tried in Lisbon! It’s different from the egg tarts I’m used to from Asia, but the custard here is incredibly fresh, creamy, and perfectly balanced. The crust is delightfully crispy, and I love that you can sprinkle cinnamon powder on top or enjoy it as is—both ways are amazing! This is an absolute must-try spot for anyone visiting Lisbon. Highly recommend!

The best Paste de Nata in the whole Lisbon. The bakery is very tiny, but such a mesmerizing. You can watch the pastry chefs prepare these desserts live. The staff is very polite and pleasant – your mood is lifted after visiting. I definitely recommend it.

Title: Good in Small Doses

Manteigaria is one of those places you *have* to try in Lisbon, and yes—the pastel de nata lives up to the hype… but only to a point. The first one or two are lovely: crisp shell, creamy custard, that iconic warm comfort. But if you overindulge, the charm starts slipping. The more you pay attention to the flavor details, the more it shifts from “wow” to “hmm, maybe not as magical as I thought.”

Coffee was fine, nothing to write home about. I also tried their glühwein, which turned out both pricey and un-drinkable—one sip was more than enough.

The setup is convenient, though. They’ve got a stand where you can grab a pastel on the spot (probably the best way to enjoy it—fresh, hot, and fleeting), or place an order to take away.

Overall: worth trying, especially if you’re in Chiado/Baixa and want that Lisbon pastry experience. Just don’t get carried away—sometimes less really is more.

Such good Pan de Nata! Queue moves super fast, staff is friendly, card payment, practical packaging and multiple presentations (1 pan, 2, 6, etc). Price is €1.50 per Pan, they also have coffee, lemonade, etc.
No place to seat, so 100% take away.

Manteigaria is truly a temple of the famous Portuguese pastel de nata, and it’s easy to see why it’s a must-visit in Lisbon. The moment you step in, you’re greeted by the aroma of freshly baked custard tarts wafting from the open kitchen, where trays of golden-brown pastries are pulled straight from the ovens.

The pastel de nata here is perfection — warm, flaky, and buttery on the outside, with a silky custard that’s rich and just the right amount of sweet. The slight caramelized top adds a beautiful touch of bitterness that balances every bite. A light dusting of cinnamon and powdered sugar takes it to another level.

Watching the bakers at work behind the glass and seeing trays of these beauties coming out of the oven makes the experience even more special. The staff are friendly and efficient, ensuring everyone gets their tart fresh and hot.

Whether you’re grabbing one to go or standing at the counter with a bica (espresso), Manteigaria offers a bite of Lisbon’s heart — simple, authentic, and unforgettable.
