UPDATE 11/16/25
Sadly had to change my ratings, terrible breakfast experiences 🙁 we’ve been back a couple times for breakfast and it’s always something…eggs overcooked, chips & salsa arriving with the meal instead of before (they’re not complimentary by the way), menudo being served with an entire roll served cold. Today was the kicker…when we asked for eggs over easy the cashier/server stated “we’ll do the best we can” When I asked how the Machaca plate was, she scoffed and rudely replied “of course”. We gave her some grace and continued our order. The chips and salsa arrived late again, menudo was served with a warm roll but it was not sliced or buttered, and again the attitude…too much this time. This is a small business that doesn’t get very busy and now we know why. We always prefer to support local businesses but not one that doesn’t make an effort or appreciate customers. We won’t be returning
And that one thing is….the birria pizza! It is huge and delicious. Jam packed with cheese and meat….pull off a slice and dip it in the birria juice….so gooood. My wife and I share one and still take leftovers home. I’m sure the other food here os just as good.
On my universal 13 point scale of chimichanga deliciousness, El Paisa ranks a strong 10 out of 13. The tortilla was perfectly fried and delicious. It was a good sized portion, with more beans and rice than usually provided by similar restaurants. The price, however, was considerably more expensive at $15 for the chimi plate.
I always order a bean and cheese chimi, and sometimes other places do give a discount for the vegetarian option, but not here. I never expect it, but it’s a nice gesture when they do.
El Paisa had okay rice, slightly over salted beans, and way over-limed green tomatillo salsa. Their cheese quality seemed good, and again, their tortilla was delicious. The pico was fresh and chunky and flavorful, but the lack of bedding lettuce with the chimi was a slight disappointment.
Overall, a good experience. Pretty spendy, in my opinion, but a solid chimi that packs a lot of flavor. I had to sit on the couch for a half hour after eating it, so if that’s any indication of how filling it was, rest assured it’s a filling meal.
