I ordered the monte cristo. The monte cristo part of the meal was fine but the hashbrowns they gave me were almost all half burnt i ate around the part that wasn’t completely a burnt puck a little bit ridiculous. The picture included is after eating around the parts that weren’t burnt so the part left is the part that was at the bottom. Still i shouldn’t be getting served hashbrowns that have the consistency of gravel unless i ask for them extra crispy.

I just picked up a Philly steak and cheese omelet and it came with something extra.
A bunch of black, mold ridden potatoes.
I’m afraid to even cut into the omelet!
Roughly $19.00 omelet.

No shock here. I love diners, and I especially love old diners. The current owner told me he is the third generation of his family to operate Zip’s and that Zip passed 70 ish years ago. So this is my kind of place!!!
I was on my way from Hartford to southern New Hampshire and planned a breakfast stop. A quick search found Zip’s listed as one of the best diners in Connecticut, and I now know why. Super friendly and quick service, great food, and reasonable prices… in a well-established, classic diner. What’s not to love?
Can’t wait to return for a burger!!!

Although this diner was busy, it’s a spacious diner and nicely decorated. Food is very delicious, portions are big, waitress was nice and polite, and good on the price. The food, drinks, service, and atmosphere were on point.

Our experience at Zip’s Diner in Killingly was downright terrible, and not because of the food it was because of the absolutely horrible service. Our waitress was completely useless from start to finish. She never came over to check on us, never refilled our drinks, and acted annoyed every time we tried to get her attention. It honestly felt like we were bothering her just by existing in the restaurant. By the middle of the meal, it became ridiculous. We had to get up ourselves to grab our own to-go boxes, and then again to get our check because she clearly couldn’t be bothered to do her job. Having to chase down a waitress just to pay is absurd. At that point, it felt less like dining out and more like a test of patience that we were losing badly. To be fair, the food was very good. My stuffed French toast was excellent, my grandma loved her Irish Benedict, and my sister’s regular breakfast platter was solid. The kitchen deserves credit, because they clearly know what they’re doing but the abysmal service completely ruined the experience. Good food cannot make up for being ignored and treated rudely. Management needs to seriously get their act together or customers will keep leaving angry and frustrated. I would not recommend coming here unless you enjoy being treated like an afterthought while trying to eat a decent meal. This is one of the worst waitressing experiences I’ve ever had, and it’s hard to believe it’s still allowed at a business that otherwise serves decent food.

Awesome little small town diner. Staff is very friendly and quick. Has a cool rustic feel to the place, was told it’s been open for 70 years. They had old mini jukeboxes at the table that played music and you could adjust volume. The food was great. One of us order a patty melt and the other an omelet. Both were cooked great and arrived quickly! Wouldn’t hesitate to stop in again!

I love diners. 9 out of 10 times they serve a simple menu with just plain good food and Zips didn’t let us down. The biscuits and gravy was the star with a light, fluffy delicious biscuit covered in sausage gravy. My over medium eggs were cooked perfectly and the hash browns had that perfect crunchy outside and hot, smooth inside. Reasonable prices and an owner who made not only the locals but everyone feel welcome. Small so seating is limited but worth the wait.

Stopped in for breakfast. Clean and staff friendly. Was surprised at how quickly food was delivered only to discover it wasn’t cooked as ordered. I had eggs over medium and they came and eggs were runny. Dining companion had blueberry pancakes, that he said could have used more time on the griddle. Edible and good, not great. Would have been worth the extra couple minutes to have food cooked. Also, no one was “manning” the register. Had to wait for someone to take payment. Never a fan of that…

I don’t live in the area, but anytime I pass through I always try to stop at Zip’s. If you’re looking for a spotless example of a 1950s stainless steel diner, you won’t find one more beautiful than Zip’s. The wait staff and owner are very friendly, and the food is consistently good. The focus here is on diner comfort food classics, from breakfast classics like hash, eggs and pancakes to lunch and dinner specials, including scratch-made soup. For diner aficionados, the mid-’50s Jerry O’Mahony dining car is wonderfully preserved, right down to the vintage red and white china and the TALL neon sign on the roof. I’ve been eating here for 30 years, and it’s always good.
