I recently visited Madurai Kitchen and Bar and had a mixed experience overall. We ordered multiple vegetarian dishes to try a variety of flavors, but the quality and taste were inconsistent.
The Gobi 65 was decent and probably the safest dish we ordered. It was crispy and acceptable in flavor, though nothing outstanding. The parota and kurma, unfortunately, were below average—the parota lacked freshness and flakiness, and the kurma had very little flavor, making the combination quite disappointing. It didn’t feel authentic.
The highlight of the meal was the Thalappakattu-style veg biryani, which was actually good. The rice was nicely cooked, aromatic, and enjoyable compared to the other dishes. However, even this dish could be better with stronger, more balanced spices and consistency.
Overall, the food tasted not well proportioned in seasoning, and several dishes felt rushed or lacking depth. The place itself has potential, but food quality and taste need major improvement to truly stand out. Ambience was okay, and service was reasonable, but the food experience is what matters most.
With better consistency, improved spice balance, and attention to traditional flavors, Madurai Kitchen and Bar could be much better. As of now, it’s a hit-or-miss experience, and I hope they improve going forward.

Pretty good Indian food. We really enjoyed the cheese Naan and both the chicken and Paneer Tikka Masala. The service was great and very attentive. The margarita should be avoided at all costs. It was terrible. I will be definitely be coming again, but probably to pick up a to go order only.

Tried their Parotta ,it was incredibly fresh and fluffy, paired perfectly with the flavorful mutton chukka. We wrapped up the meal with a refreshing mango lassi, which provided the perfect end to a satisfying dine-in experience.
The service truly stood out – the staff was attentive, courteous, and ensured everything was served promptly. They frequently checked in without being intrusive, making us feel genuinely welcomed. Overall, a great experience both in terms of food and hospitality. Will visit again !

Went here a Monday for lunch on a cold winter day and it was the best. The vada in Sambar and the Mysore masala dosa were both delicious. Service was great and quick and quality of food was excellent. Will be going back here again for my dosa fix. Only thing is I wish there was more Sambar with the dosa. The quantity given isn’t enough.

This is some of the best South Indian food we have had in a while! And so nice to have it in the suburbs of Illinois! The mango lassi was delicious with a nice cardamom flavor. The chicken kizhi parotta was very flavorful with soft pieces of chicken and lots of gravy. The Mysore masala dosa was crispy and flavorful. The sambar did not taste much like sambar and did not have traditional vegetable pieces but that is the only minor complaint we would have. Would highly recommend this place and looking forward to coming back!
