Late one night, I visited Allegro briefly after getting a recommendation to check it out. It was pretty quiet wasn’t expecting to stay but I saw a beautiful selection on their menu with Mummy Shrimp (bacon-wrapped) , so I decided to sit in for an appetizer and a dessert.
First thing, the decor is clean and homely. It felt high-end. There was a beautiful aquarium upon entering, a gorgeous bar, nice seating and tables and the lighting felt just right for a bar/restaurant.
The bartender/waiter who served me was amazingly hospitable. I was the only person there but even then I felt attended to in a way I’m sure she aims to do with her patrons.
I ordered the Mummy Shrimp and a simple water with lemon. What came from the kitchen exceeded my expectations in plating execution. It looked great! The grilled shrimp was flayed and wrapped with bacon. There was a light drizzling of sauce on the shrimp and on the plate. The shrimp just a little dry and probably could be finished with a light brushing of butter (even lightly browned) to bring it back to life a bit more. Also, I was looking for a more knockout flavor but I enjoyed it overall, definitely a solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐. Next, I viewed the dessert menu… Impressive selection. I ordered the Crepe Suzette . The crepes themselves were made to perfection, but the orange/citrus “sauce” seemed to just be marmalade. This part turned me off as there was so much of the marmalade it was like eating a spoonful of jelly in each bite. I do wish for them to use a more traditional sauce for this dessert in the future, because otherwise it was spot on. I have to come back to get through the dessert menu and to try one of their premium entrees.
My verdict: I need another visit. I enjoyed everything overall but I need to give them a chance to show me what they really can do. They have someone in that kitchen who can execute some amazingly beautiful dishes and I appreciate that. I’ll be back again for dinner and cocktails. #itsfoodovereverything

This place was such a great discovery! We were happily greeted upon entering and even got to meet the owner. He’s the sweetest person ever Beautiful interior and an excellent food & cocktail selection. The Seafood platter was the best decision I could had made to celebrate my birthday! I even got a complimentary bottle of champagne. Will definitely be back!!

As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by a stunning fish tank full of colorful marine life — it really sets a relaxing tone for the evening. The food was delicious and beautifully presented — the lobster dish especially stood out, full of flavor and cooked perfectly.
The restaurant was pretty quiet when I visited, which made it a nice, calm dining experience. It seems like most of the staff were working near the bar, but service was still good and attentive when needed.
Overall, a great experience with fresh seafood, relaxing ambiance, and fair prices. Definitely worth recommending for anyone looking for a cozy seafood spot!

Food was delicious, for drinks we had the vocka tonic and mojito pasión fruit, love it. We ordered the clams and shrimp cocktail. It was really good great taste.

Be mindful that the kitchen closes at 10:30pm. I came in shy to 10:30pm and thankfully Julian our waiter took the party and got our order quickly to make it on time. My oh my the platter he recommended was absolutely delicious. The seafood platter was full to the top of delicious and fresh seafood over a sauce that was exquisite to your taste buds. The platter came with a side of fried potatoes and a house salad as the appetizer. Their house wine was good and the price was even better. The atmosphere on a Sunday late evening was quiet and relaxing there. You have a choice of indoor seating or outdoor. I preferred the outdoor due to the ambiance of it. It felt like I was having dinner on vacation lol. Julian gave great customer service and made sure to accommodate any other needs. I saw that they offer hookah which is a plus for me but unfortunately I saw it leaving. The only downfall from my experience is the parking.

Ive came here a few times, and their seafood is always unbelievable. They also have a few other options if seafood isn’t your type of food! Service is fast, and never complicated. It has beautiful decorations like the fish tank right when you walk in, even better the outside!Totally recommend this Restaurant!!!!

It was overall a bad experience for us. We drove to Newark to celebrate Valentine’s Day a day early with our kids-one studying in the area. I chose Allegro while enroute because of their availability. Looking back, it might have been a tell-tale sign. We waited too long for the food- from the appetizers to the entree. Except for the appetizers- shrimp wrapped with bacon and spinach empanadas, the entrees were pretty bad. The seafood mariscos was too salty and soggy; the pasta Alfredo with mushrooms was too oily and the codfish with peppers and onions was surprisingly bland with sharp bones sticking out. Only the beef skirt steak and French fries were passable. The service is okey considering that there seems to be 1 or 2 servers. The food and drinks are pricy. I can think of the other restos in the area with much better food offerings in the same price range.
That was our first time at Allegros and that’s enough.

Absolutely phenomenal experience at Allegro in Newark! The food was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared—every bite was delicious. But what really made it memorable was the service. Julian was outstanding—charismatic, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. He truly elevated the entire experience. Highly recommend this gem of a Portuguese restaurant. Can’t wait to come back!
