But anytime we have a excuse to go that away we will center our visit around a meal at Granny Bee’s . Did I say the food is Really Good .
The menu is your general country cooking: pot roast, fried fish, shrimp, hamburger steak, etc. We started off with an order of fried oysters, which were excellent. We were also served warm rolls among our arrival, which were great.
A few minutes later I got my roast beef dinner with mashed potatoes, green beans, and gravy. The green beans were canned but tasty. The mashed potatoes were instant and bland. And the roast beef was just 2 slices of tough deli roast beef with gravy on it.
It was well over 15 minutes when my husband and son’s meals came out. I don’t like eating before my son and husband, so I waited. My husband got the hamburger steak with fries and green beans. They brought out the hamburger steak with onion rings and fries. My husband told her he asked for green beans, and she says “oh, I wrote onion rings.” And he said, nicely, “I’m sorry, I did say green beans though.” And she said “okay, do you want onion rings?” And he said “I would like to have green beans because I was gonna give some to my son” and she said “so you want green beans too?” And he said yes. And she walked away and finally got the green beans.
My son had no complaints. Lol he’s not a picky eater and devoured his fried catfish, macaroni salad, some green beans, and baked apples.
We had to go to the counter for a sweet tea refill, boxes, and ketchup throughout the meal because the server wouldn’t come to the table. She was friendly but not very efficient for sure.
The 6 piece fried oysters, 2 sweet teas, a kids meal, and 2 dinners was all under $50, so the price was pretty good. Overall I doubt we’ll come back if we’re in the area, but it definitely left us fed with large portions and a decent price.
ETA: The bread basket had a couple napkins in it with the bread on top, and the basket underneath was caked in food debris and dust/whatever else. It was pretty unsanitary.
On a Friday night, we originally chose Mexican, but it was overly crowded so we decided to go here. There was parking right out front, which is more convenient for our toddler.
We noticed they have a salad bar, which we didn’t try.
I looked up the menu before we arrived so there was no wasted time in ordering. I selected the Granny Bee’s Special which is a 6 oz ribeye steak with grilled shrimp. Online the price is $17.95. Be advised they’ve raised the price to $19.99. My two sides were a baked potato and green beans. My husband ordered the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and green beans and we ordered a grilled cheese for our son, which was not on the dinner menu.
You get rolls with your meal. It came out steaming. My husband didn’t care for the bread, but I thought it was good (I don’t usually eat bread so that might color my perception).
Service was incredibly fast. I’ve never seen such a thin steak in my life, but steaks come in a variety of thickness and the flavor was acceptable and so was the texture. The shrimp were smaller, but I was impressed by the flavoring. The potato had plentiful butter and sour cream and the beans tasted homemade. All in all, I enjoyed my meal. My husband did too, although the mashed potatoes seemed instant to him. Honestly, I’ve never been in an affordable country restaurant that had real mashed potatoes, so that wasn’t a shock. They have real iced tea, while some country restaurants serve instant (please ask and never accept instant).
There is a very cute child’s drawing framed on the wall I’d love to buy if it were for sale.
UPDATE: We went back for breakfast. Variety, orders, and service were winners for us.
