Social Profile:

A West Elsdon neighborhood staple since 2007, Solazo (sister concept to Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient La Josie in the West Loop) re-opened in October 2021 with it’s first ever cocktail program, refreshed menu and outdoor patio seating. The updated menu introduces new modern flavors that pay tribute to owner Pepe Barajas’ childhood in Mexico and his family’s puestos de tacos (taco stands). Pepe Barajas and his talented team bring creative and thoughtful dishes influenced by all regions of Mexico alongside some of his family recipes from their home state (and tequila’s birthplace), Jalisco, Mexico. Solazo takes pride in it’s extensive agave program, which features Raicilla and other agave spirits.

Colorful mini-chain outpost with outdoor seating, flower boxes & a menu of familiar Mexican dishes.

It was our first time here and we really enjoyed it. We went for breakfast and since there were very few customers, we took our time to enjoy our food and coffee without feeling rushed. They don’t offer free chips and salsa like other restaurants, but we didn’t mind. We ordered the Steak Skillet, which was delicious and came with around 8 small flavorful home made tortillas, and the Desayuno Solazo that was big enough that it kept me full until dinner time!!! The service was excellent. Liz A. was our server and she was very nice and attentive. The prices were reasonable too. Great music selection for the background (oldies/classic in Spanish). The establishment was very clean too.

Been coming here for a year, consistently. Always a great time and could consider it my guilty pleasure. Joel and José luis are really great bartenders and know their stuff really well. My girlfriend and I make it known we PREFER to sit at the bar ALWAYS!

Salazob was beautiful, vibrant, energetic, and cozy, too. There’s indoor seating with open-air windows. There’s a full bar and outdoor seating as well.

It felt amazing outside. My party elected to sit outside. The live DJ kept the tunes upbeat, and our server Monica was engaging. She provided exceptional service. Monica suggested food and drink options. She accommodated our needs.

The food items were FLAVOR BOMBS. From the Ceviche De Coco, Guacamole Orginale, Ribeye Taco, Al Pastor, Asada, Cameron, Tripitas, Grilled Onions and Grilled Peppers.

The drinks were oh so delicious! The Piel Morano was my escape to a carribean island. The Vibora de la Mar with the watermelon garnish was just fabulous. La Ley de Monte and Quien Se Anima agave flight were great to experience as well. Can’t wait to return.

Just had the most delicious meal! Two tacos – Pollo & Carnitas were delicious as usual. Carne de jugo – an amazing broth with steak, avocado, bacon, beans and more – served with hot and fresh tortillas. Pleasantly spicy and satisfying. Excellent service and great music playing in the background, made the night complete.

I’ve been a loyal customer of El Solazo since 2007, so when they reopened in 2021 with a new cocktail menu and refreshed food offerings, I had to give it a try. I truly enjoy the modernization; it means I no longer have to travel to the West Loop or River North for the same vibrant atmosphere and exquisite flavors.

I’ve sampled every single food item and cocktail on the menu. My husband and I love going there so much that Leslie, one of the servers, now recognizes us and knows our favorite shots. Having Leslie as our server always enhances our experience. She’s incredibly sweet, always has a smile, and provides the best recommendations.

While the whole staff is kind and attentive, Leslie’s impeccable service deserves a special mention. She made my birthday brunch unforgettable by bringing out a special birthday shot and dessert. All my friends were impressed with the food and drinks. Leslie also recommended we try the happy hour. So, what did I do? I called off work so my husband and I could enjoy the happy hour flight she suggested.

El Solazo is definitely one of our favorite spots for great food and drinks. We tend to indulge and happily spend our money because we love it there so much. If your experience wasn’t up to your standards, that’s okay—it was your experience. But for my husband and me, El Solazo is top tier.

The boys there are so sweet and so professional. Genuinely enjoyed the bartender. If you want to have some small talk and a laugh this is definitely the spot you want to be at to have a pick me up. Food was delicious, well seasoned and love the amount of Guac they give. Great cocktails and beautiful presentation. I love how the dishes have a modern take on Mexican food but still remembers their roots. Needless to say definitely recommending it to my friends.

This is a very cool & hip looking high end taqueria, but the portions are akin to Big Star but the flavors are all there. Also, the presentation is very eclectic, like those in the River North area, but this is located near Midway, in the West Lawn neighborhood.

Their happy hour is weekdays at 4-6p; that’s where I ordered their tacos dorados, similar to a flauta, but is made of corn tortillas thats fried and crunchy. The chicken tinga served on a bed of lettuce with queso and beans and other ingredients was a treat. The crunchy taco was excellent and complimented each other from texture to acidity.

Also ordered single tacos of shrimp (camarón) and battered cod (baja) was flavorful and refreshing with the crisp cabbage and aioli.

I definitely will go there again just for these tacos, which I believe are priced fairly, though a bit small, but full of flavor.

The bar staff was super friendly and accommodating. I’m sure this is packed close to the weekend, but this Tuesday was my only availability.

The guy at the bar was kind of rude and made a big fuss about free shots that the waitress offered us for being nice and moving seats. Then he took 20 minutes to give us our bill. Props to the waitress Monica though 10/10 service

Possibly my favorite restaurant on Chicago’s south side! The food is always great and the service is excellent. I usually come for brunch, my favorite is the chilaquiles, but we recently went there for dinner and enjoyed the tacos and burritos.
