Casey R you rocked it tonight. I flew in from AZ to help clean out my brother’s apartment with my sister. You didn’t know it but he is the first homocide of the year. We needed a stress free good food atmosphere and you helped make that possible!

I visited yesterday we waited for about 5-10 minutes before being seated. There where only two other couples in the restaurant. Then we waited about 20 minutes before our order was taken. In the meantime time other people came in got seated and got their order taken before us . The food was mediocre with lack of flavor. And on top of all that it came out warm, Not fresh and hot. There was so much oil/ grease in my fish and grits. The hush puppies were old and hard. Also we ordered bang bang shrimp for an appetizer there were 6 shrimp for $17. And the waitress that originally took an order and never came back until it was time to drop off the check. The drinks were mostly ice and juice, very little alcohol. This was my first first and last visit. I was Absolutely not happy.

Oof. I am not a complainer, and am generally a patient person. I probably should have spoken to a manager, but I was honestly so uncomfortable that I just wanted to leave.
We are in just for a weekend visiting, and decided of all the seafood restaurants in Tallahassee, to try this one. We got seated quickly, and for a Saturday night, at 6:45pm I probably should have taken that as a sign. The restaurant was not busy at all. My husband ordered drinks while I took my kid to the bathroom, and as soon as I sat down, before drinks were even out we were being asked if we were ready to order. A few minutes later my kids had their drinks in front of them, but I guess the server didn’t understand what we wanted. I had to spell out Miller Light. Anyway, the drinks arrived and we ordered food. As my teen daughter ordered the low country boil (she’s a tiny girl), the server said “Are you sure? That’s a lot of food.” Would I be letting my kid order a $29 dish if I had questions about the amount of food? Okay, so on to the next thing. Again, with only a handful of other tables, and nothing weird or extra- no appetizers or anything, it was 7:50 when the food came out. But wait, mine wasn’t there. The server said “Am I missing something?” Yes, my entire meal. There are only four of us at our table. My husband also ordered sweet potato fries and was brought out regular. He decided not to worry about it since food was already taking so long. Ten minutes later my food came out and it was not hot. Barely warm. My fries oysters were even a bit soggy. The food tasted good, but after over an hour of waiting, again, I decided to roll with it. My crab cake came out five minutes after the rest of my food too, and, again. Cold. My daughter also mentioned her boil was not warm either, and no extra napkins or tools to open snow crab were provided. I even had to ask for a single set of silverware for my seafood platter: Stay with me. So, we ate as much as we could, the server came back to see if we wanted boxes. I told her no because we are in a hotel and there wasn’t even a ton left. Some corn. A quarter piece of fish, some bread from a po boy and fries, a few shrimp, a small amount of crab cake. She gave me a sour face and went on her way. She came back twice to ask if we wanted boxes and again, seemed really irritated we didn’t want to take anything with us. Again, we don’t have a mini fridge or microwave at our hotel. Finally, my husband just bluntly said just the check. That came within seconds, of course. Then, when she brings back my credit card, which she stood over me to get out, she stood over my shoulder while I was standing for me to fill out the tip line. I honestly tipped below 20% and it was still way more than was deserved. At no time was there an apology for the delay, for forgetting my food or anything. Look, I was a restaurant manager for years. I have patience and extend a lot of understanding, but this was beyond reproach. The restaurant was fully staffed too. A lot of servers were doing side work. Ironically, I was in the restroom to wash my hands after I ate and another table had a very similar experience.

I was in the restaurant April 2nd around 12:30. I ordered a dozen raw oysters a lobster roll with a side of fries and fried grouper and oyster with a side of fries as well. In my thinking I thought the oysters would have came out first and then the meals. However they were going to bring them out with the meals. I’ve been a regular customer for a few years now. My first experience was terrible because I had a flying roach flew in and landed on my table with the food. So i gave you’ll a second chance and it was pretty good. That was back when yall were doing 2 sides with the meal. Then it went to 1 side now it’s back to a side plus coleslaw with no substitutions. Which I feel like it should be 2 sides of your choice if you don’t want the slaw. Which I definitely declined because I have never had coleslaw in my life and couldn’t even begin to tell you what it taste like. Back to the original complaint. Usually when we come in the waiter would give us a basket of the condiments when we were seated at our table. However we were seated with nothing. Again in my thinking I thought maybe because we were dining outside that when the food arrived they would’ve brought the basket of condiments. I ended up going to see what was taking our oysters so long to come out. Needless to say the server was going to bring them out with the food. I politely declined the oysters because what’s the point in eating them if they were coming out with the meals. Very pointless. Once we were served our food the young lady failed in bringing out my side of fries. She didn’t even ask if we need any condiments or anything. Upon inspecting my food I didn’t like how the fish looked so I went back inside to talk to the manager. I talked with the bar manager and the kitchen manager aka the cook. I was assured by the cook that the fish was fresh and it had just came in that morning. The fish didn’t look appealing at all. Like it had been previously cooked. Then he proceeded to tell me that it was white grouper and it looked like that when it was cooked which I highly doubt. The breading was hard an breaking off in chunks without the fish. I also told him about the oysters and how she didn’t ask if we wanted them before the meal or not. I thought that if we ordered oysters they were expected to come out before the meals. Which in my experience in the food service industry and common sense it’s no need to worry about them if they’re coming out with the meals that’s why it’s called a appetizer. So I asked for a carry out and packed my oysters and fries. Paid the bill and left the fish. The fries that came with the lobster roll were cold as hell. Like i don’t know. I was totally pissed off especially with this experience being that my first experience wasn’t so pleasurable. The bar manager asked for this not to be our last visit. I told her that I didn’t know if it would or not but I definitely didn’t like the service nor the food. I think the bill was $87.61 I left a $2.39 tip to round it up to $90

Food was good and staff were friendly. We were seated quickly for brunch and everything was tasty. There was no kids menu available; we over ordered & paid for the kids. Live music was going and the vibe was laid back, friendly & relaxed. The artwork by Lello Co. on the outside wall is amazing! I love to see local artists’ work appreciated by other locals. Very cool and a great reason to visit Tally Fish House!

Our server Tori had excellent customer service! She was attentive and kept the bottomless mimosas coming! The catfish nuggets and crab claws were both very good. Hot and fresh. We also ordered the shrimp and lobster omelette. Also very tasty and full of flavor. We didn’t care for the grits. No flavor and didn’t taste like it was cooked all the way. The fan was on full blast and couldn’t be adjusted. If you get cold easy, bring a jacket. It’s not a very big space so bar area was a little tight. Overall, we had a great brunch and enjoyed the food and service! We will return!

Tally Fish House & Oyster Bar is a favorite of mine. I started off with Gator Bites. Then the choose two red snapper with sweet potato fries. They serve it with a melted marshmallow that compliments it so well.
