The sweet tea was fresh.
I ordered a small Mediterranean salad & it was enough to share.
The pizza was excellent! We had a garlic crust with pepperoni & mushroom. Ordered an 18 inch between 2 people, it was perfect!
For dessert we had a cannoli. It was pretty good. Would love if those were as fresh as the pizza & cheesecake though. Still good.
The service was fantastic! Our waiter was on top of it! Our cups were never empty & we cleared away our dishes as we finished them. He was sweet and walked with purpose!
The decor of this place was neat! I loved the historic New York photos and the wine bottle lighting! Very clean, smelled amazing & I loved that you can see them working dough from your table! Very cool!

Total disappointment for a $36 pizza.
We ordered an 18” Traditional with extra mozzarella, mushrooms, pepperoni, and a 1/2 & 1/2 split of green olives and anchovies. We requested “crispy,” but what we got was burnt on both the top AND bottom.
The quality was severely lacking:
Toppings: The “extra” mozzarella was non-existent. Toppings were skimpy and overlapped in the middle, which is a problem when one person hates olives and the other hates anchovies.Freshness: The anchovies tasted old and off—not the quality you expect at this price point. The Build: The crust was paper-thin and chewy, with almost no sauce. Even the shape was off; it was barely a circle, with a few undersized slices.
Service: When I asked for a receipt at the takeout counter, the employee walked away to the opposite corner of the restaurant without a word. Apparently, the takeout area had no printer, the one nearby on the other side of the main doors was broken, and communication was even more broken.
Ambiance: The restaurant was surprisingly fairly full, in spite of the quality of the pizza we received. I felt sorry for the people paying way too much for terrible pizza, but hey, it’s not MY money. Not anymore, not here.I’d give this location zero stars if I could. Avoid this Stone Oak spot.
I wish Papa John’s still had decent pizza, but that changed several years ago. For now, we’ll go back to Pizza Hut, which requires some extra travel, since the closest one closed recently.
We will not go back. If you like cheaply made, thin, questionable pizza, knock yourselves out.
Let’s be clear: coal-fired pizza should have some char. That’s part of the flavor. But parts of the bottom were blackened enough to taste bitter. Not the entire base — but enough to throw off the balance. That’s the difference between “artisan” and “overdone.”
Then the grease. A proper pizza needs a light touch of olive oil — just enough to enhance the crust. This felt excessive. My napkin was covered in grease and dark residue, and that’s not something you want to see when you’re halfway through a slice.
Now, positives: the open kitchen is a great concept. Watching the pizza being made adds to the experience. The restaurant was clean, and the bathrooms were well maintained with working hot and cold water.
But around $30 for two people sharing one pizza? For that price, execution has to be on point. Atmosphere was solid. The pizza just didn’t match it.
I will not be back at this location ever again
We were seated next to a neighbor that had been here since 5, and her pizza came out at 7.
Another manager came by, he is personable and clearly more experienced. Immediately he listened and tried to recover, no excuses, and offered to assist. The server is also super nice, and trying to make a crappy situation better.
Overall, taking reservations, and walking in with a reservation on Father’s Day to be told it’s 2 hours or you can leave is just unforgivable. I have been burnt too many times by Grimaldi and despite my sentimental attachment from growing up in NY with the name, this is nothing like it, it’s just a fast food chain, poorly ran, with no pizza standards. There should be a disclaimer saying we can’t make pizza, try at your own risk. This is my last trip to Grimaldi, try at your own risk.
