Had an awesome meal at Vanam Restaurant with their pure vegetarian menu. We tried the Gobi Manchuria, Jackfruit Biryani, and Mysore Bonda. Honestly, everything tasted super yummy and fresh.
I’m giving 4⭐ only because we specifically requested the Gobi Manchuria to be extra spicy ️ and crispy. It was slightly crispy, but not spicy at all, it actually tasted a little sweet, almost like fried gobi topped with honey.
The Jackfruit Biryani was absolutely top-notch, especially the rice texture perfectly cooked. (Hyderabadis will understand exactly what I mean when I say perfect biryani rice texture )
Coming to the Mysore Bonda, no complaints at all. It was super fresh and surprisingly light even though it’s fried. Usually they give 4 pieces, but one bonda was smaller so they kindly added an extra one The palli chutney and tangy tomato chutney were also really good. Try challa(buttermilk) its good refreshment post an amazing brunch/lunch/dinner
Even though we visited close to closing time, the staff were still very active and cheerful. The owner was also welcoming, personally thanking customers and asking for reviews and feedback for improvement.
The seating, cleanliness, and cutlery all felt neat and totally worth it.
On a seperate note, they do need to pay attention to restroom cleanliness though.
We visited this restaurant in Chicago and were blown away — the food tasted just like home. Every dish reminded me of eating in my local hometown in India — perfectly spiced, fresh, and full of flavor. The dosa, sambar, curries and chutneys were exactly as they should be.
On top of that, the service was excellent — especially from Twinsy, who went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect. Truly felt like a slice of India right here in Chicago. Highly recommended!
The last few times we had to leave because of the long wait of more than 45 minutes.
They finally added additional dining space leasing the restaurant next door!
Great South Indian food in Gen and good service.
The dining and decor is also great and very comfortable!
I would highly recommend this Restaurant if you get a chance whenever you are in the Northern suburbs!
Pros: Cheese Dosa (kid favorite) & Chole bhature!
Cons: Veggie Dum Biryani (recommended by waitress. It was like eating plain rice lol I spent $16 for the most tasteless rice entree I’ve ever had that wasn’t plain rice
Suggestion: I do think if you label your menu with food allergies, whether it’s nuts or gluten or anything else, your sales can increase since people would know right off the bat what they can and can’t eat. Might be worth it next time you print new menus. Again, just a suggestion that would most likely drive up your sales!

Came again on 2/6/26 for dinner and the food was even better than last time. Might be our favorite vegetarian Indian restaurant!!
The staff is also great and very attentive. A manager in a white shirt was also going around asking every table if everything was good. This is what you call great service!

Came again on 2/13, and I must say my visit was even better than 2/6. This was for two reasons:
1. Rachel has definitely been the best waitress we’ve had!
2. She recommended the Paneer Chatpata and that entree was so delicious.
Can’t wait to be back soon!
