Tempest is a classic restaurant in downtown Charleston in the heart of market Street. Overall, the experience from the staff to the food to the atmosphere.
Happy hours phenomenal deal to try some of their classics. Their burger was well marinated, though slightly thin fries were delicious, thin and crispy shoestring style.
The shrimp may have been the best part of the meal. Didn’t know that cocktail shrimp could be so perfectly cooked and so well marinated, served chilled with a delicious classic cocktail sauce.
calamari was very thinly battered, perfectly cooked with no chewiness. Loved the aioli too though a little too citrusy.
Pistachio wedge salad was super creamy, fun to get, but may not get every time. The dill flavor was nice.
Fish tacos were a 1/5. The fish portion was small, under seasoned, and not flaky or buttery at all. The coleslaw was okay with pineapple hints but overall very very underwhelming, under seasoned, and extremely small portion for a $19 for only two.

What an amazing and beautiful restaurant – food is over the top. We had the braised short rib with the Irish whipped mashed potatoes, and they were amazing. Also, the roasted oysters definitely a pleasure with their own butter, garlic, scallion sauce.
Joe at the bar and Isabel our waitress were
so welcoming from the get go – The only thing better than the food was the service!

We came here for my oldest daughter’s birthday and it did not disappoint. The place is very cozy and the food was outstanding. The ocean rolls, which were ordered twice, were so good. We also had the calamari which was cooked perfectly. For entrees we had flounder, and several pastas. Desert was their version of a smore. Since I mentioned it was my daughter’s birthday they brought out a card wishing her a happy birthday and signed by the staff. Nice touch. I highly recommend coming here.

Tried Church and Union in September. Came back to try Tempest. Like C & U, the atmosphere at Tempest was fantastic. The stained glass ceiling was beautiful. Intricate work with masterful colors. Tempest is the sister restaurant of C & U. The food was ok. I had the special of the night halibut and charcoal roasted root vegetables. The vegetables were very flavorful in the sauce. The halibut was not as flavorful with the light crust. Others had the roasted shrimp and the ocean rolls as their meal. The ocean rolls were probably second best only to the stained glass. The up kept tradition was a nice touch. A complimentary rose for the ladies and special bourbon shot for all. Check them out and decide for yourself.

The experience was fantastic start to finish. We had calamari and their special rolls as appetizers… both fantastic. Steak frites and bolognese were both stellar. Finished off with pot de la creme desert and port… flawless.
They offer a complimentary flower and brandy tasting at the end along with the history of -why- which was great as well.
All through the way Bryce provided us with A++ service. 10/10 will be back.

I am normally pleasantly surprised by my experience with dining in Charleston. However, Ella and the fine folks at Tempest took it to a new level. The food was top notch and the environment was the perfect energy for a birthday dinner. Look forward to going back soon!

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Tempest and had the most amazing time! The meal was outstanding but what truly set the experience apart was the service–absolutely world class. We felt celebrated by the entire staff in a way that was really genuine. Tempest is on our list of places to return to on a future Charleston trip.

Was here for a business dinner, great food and great service. The house made pasta with bolognese sauce was fantastic, came with a mountain of cheese. The house nori bread was sweet and salty, and the calamari was perfectly cooked.

Wife and I had a wonderful meal tonight at Tempest. Red Snapper and Pasta were both delicious. Shrimp was the best I’ve ever had. Cocktails, salad, bread, desert..all delicious. Our server (Grace) was great walking us through the menu. We’ll be back whenever we’re in town!

My husband and I recently moved to the area and decided we would try Tempest as our first date night, because we love seafood. We went for the NYE special dinner, and it was spectacular. We arrived at 5:31pm thinking our reservation was at 5:30. Turns out it was for 5:15 (100 percent our mistake, we should have double checked). They were very gracious and made room for us, despite our mistake. Our waitress, Grace Winter, was AMAZING! She was so fun and knowledgeable. My husband and I love to treat ourselves to fine dining experiences, and this one was one of the best, and I’m convinced it’s mostly because of her. Her recommendations were spot on. I can’t wait to come back and try the regular menu, and hopefully we get Ms. Winter again.
