We’ve had the:
-Pint of Wee Dram- a Scottish style ale- $6.50- Excellent
-Crispy Brussel Sprouts- $11- Ordered as an appetizer- these were nicely crisp but the sweet and sour type sauce poured on top is strong and reminded me of Chinese takeout flavor. Not my favorite flavor.
-Kid’s Burger with mac & cheese- $10 (includes a $2 upcharge to sub the fries with mac & cheese) The burger was good, and it included cheese
-Beer brat with chips and mac & cheese – $16 (includes a $2 up charge for the mac & cheese)
-Fish & Chips- $19- Would not get this again as the batter is thick and large and the fish is small. We live on the coast and get really good fish and chips, and this dish is lacking. Fries are tasty, though
-Beef Dipper $18 (includes $1 upcharge to sub fries to veggies) This was really tasty- includes sauce for dipping- hot thinly sliced beef, warm bread. The veggies were a cup of diced carrots and zucchini which was nice.
-Apple Crisp- $13 (includes a $3 upcharge for adding vanilla ice cream) When the waitress asked if we wanted vanilla ice cream with the apple crisp, I had assumed it was a part of the dessert. I was wrong to assume.
Service was great. Lauren was friendly and got everything right.
Devil’s Backbone adds an automatic “Rural Sustainability Fee” of $0.30- not sure if this is the same amount added to everyone’s checks or if it’s only for tourists. Not sure if this is government mandated or if it’s company initiated fee, or what they do with this.
I’d definitely come here again, order plenty of beers, skip the fish and chips and skip dessert and focus on dishes with meat. Will be nice to sit outside in the beer garden once it’s warm enough.
Anyway, we ordered a bunch of items and I had the “Pub Burger” (I forgot the name but I think that’s it), along with fries on the side. The beef patty was really cooked to perfection, not dry, not overcooked, but super juicy and tasty. The added veggies, bacon, and the aioli made it really better. The buns were really delicious, too! And I think it is the best burger buns I’ve ever had. I just also wish there were plenty of fries for the side, though.
Our server, Chris, was fantastic and very friendly! Kept checking us for any refills or anything we need. However, when we were done eating our foods, he seemed pretty busy enough talking to other customers from his tables so I understand. Took a bit to get our bill. Kudos for his hard work, though!
4 stars for the whole experience.
It was a fantastic birthday for hubby & a sweet, friendly group of staff made it all the more special!
Thank you Devils Backbone crew for all of your attention & service!
UPDATE: Changed from 4 to 3 due to the terrible QR ordering they now have. It’s annoying and doesn’t fit an establishment like this. Please go back to using people!
Great place to go for good food and beer. Had the ribs, elk burrito, fish and chips and much more, all pretty solid. Get a pretzel with cheese sauce, you won’t be disappointed. It’s on the pricier side for the area but it’s worth it. Service has always been great. DO MAKE RESERVATIONS! They can be very busy, hour long waits if you don’t. Huge area outside to sit and have a beer or order sandwiches.
