Overall the property is very nice. We tent camped in the tent camping sites. Ours was 56, but also shown are some directly across from us that were more grassy. They also have RV camping sites that looked very nice. The bathhouse was convenient and clean. The outside is a great place to hang out in nice weather. There was karaoke on Friday night, which provided good entertainment. While they have a decent menu, the food is just ok. We had BBQ and Burgers from the outside grill. I don’t think the restaurant is much better from what we observed from others. They have coffee and pastries for purchase from 8am-11am for campers. Saturday night it rained, so there wasn’t much to do outside but the restaurant/bar gets pretty full so it would be nice if they had an area with music, etc for rainy days. My only complaints are the bartenders at the restaurant bar are not very friendly. They don’t address or acknowledge you unless you are directly placing an order. This happened both nights, with the second night we ended up just leaving since they didn’t offer to refill our beers or acknowledge us at all. This seems odd since you are most likely having people coming from all over and a little camaraderie would go a long way. The only other complaint is they could use more lighting around the front entrance, parking lot and the paths near the camps, even if its just some solar lights. Otherwise the property was nicely maintained and a lot of fun if something is going on.

We’ve been here twice in the winter months. Haven’t yet had the chance to come in the warmer months but that’s on my to-do list.

We’ve had the:

-Pint of Wee Dram- a Scottish style ale- $6.50- Excellent

-Crispy Brussel Sprouts- $11- Ordered as an appetizer- these were nicely crisp but the sweet and sour type sauce poured on top is strong and reminded me of Chinese takeout flavor. Not my favorite flavor.

-Kid’s Burger with mac & cheese- $10 (includes a $2 upcharge to sub the fries with mac & cheese) The burger was good, and it included cheese

-Beer brat with chips and mac & cheese – $16 (includes a $2 up charge for the mac & cheese)

-Fish & Chips- $19- Would not get this again as the batter is thick and large and the fish is small. We live on the coast and get really good fish and chips, and this dish is lacking. Fries are tasty, though

-Beef Dipper $18 (includes $1 upcharge to sub fries to veggies) This was really tasty- includes sauce for dipping- hot thinly sliced beef, warm bread. The veggies were a cup of diced carrots and zucchini which was nice.

-Apple Crisp- $13 (includes a $3 upcharge for adding vanilla ice cream) When the waitress asked if we wanted vanilla ice cream with the apple crisp, I had assumed it was a part of the dessert. I was wrong to assume.

Service was great. Lauren was friendly and got everything right.

Devil’s Backbone adds an automatic “Rural Sustainability Fee” of $0.30- not sure if this is the same amount added to everyone’s checks or if it’s only for tourists. Not sure if this is government mandated or if it’s company initiated fee, or what they do with this.

I’d definitely come here again, order plenty of beers, skip the fish and chips and skip dessert and focus on dishes with meat. Will be nice to sit outside in the beer garden once it’s warm enough.

First time being here and the atmosphere is really nice and cozy. We came here yesterday for lunch and I heard they offer brunch items but those stuff doesn’t have any printed menu at the moment.

Anyway, we ordered a bunch of items and I had the “Pub Burger” (I forgot the name but I think that’s it), along with fries on the side. The beef patty was really cooked to perfection, not dry, not overcooked, but super juicy and tasty. The added veggies, bacon, and the aioli made it really better. The buns were really delicious, too! And I think it is the best burger buns I’ve ever had. I just also wish there were plenty of fries for the side, though.

Our server, Chris, was fantastic and very friendly! Kept checking us for any refills or anything we need. However, when we were done eating our foods, he seemed pretty busy enough talking to other customers from his tables so I understand. Took a bit to get our bill. Kudos for his hard work, though!

4 stars for the whole experience.

Came for the lumberjack festival and stayed for dinner. We got the nachos with chicken, the meat dip sandwich and the pub burger. Everything was delicious and service was great. We sat out on the patio and it was the perfect weather for a fantastic dinner.

Took the hubby for his birthday! It was fantastic! We stopped & saw Katie in the ABC; she recommended the beef brisket. So we decided to check it out… got us a table; she was super friendly & sweet! Karen, our server did a great job with descriptions & service. Colleen, the chef, did not disappoint! She was incredibly nice & the brisket was melt in your mouth, beautifully done, phenomenal! Then, we strolled out to see Taylor at the outdoor bar. He served us grape smash (YUM) and frozen pineapple/coconut rum (YUM)!

It was a fantastic birthday for hubby & a sweet, friendly group of staff made it all the more special!

Thank you Devils Backbone crew for all of your attention & service!

I’m giving Devils Backbone Basecamp Brewpub, Brewery, and Distillery 5 stars. The staff are very cordial and do a very good job providing fabulous customer service. Everyone we encountered here was perfect. We learned that this brewery began in 2008 and later on with subsequently bought out by another company. However, you’ve never know that this company is owned by a larger brewing corporation because the employees make it as local as possible. The mixed drinks are excellent and I had a fabulous beer brewed right here on site. Then my wife and I shared a burger and it was awesome. This location is beautiful and the environment is really cool. I highly recommend that you visit Devils Backbone on your next trip to Virginia.

The restaurant has good food, decent prices. Everything on tap is brewed on site. They also have a distillery that makes their own bourbon. Definitely give their adult beverage offerings a try. The bourbon was good as was the cider. For food, the wings were crispy. We had dry rubbed wings and honey garlic, both of which were excellent. Truffle fries with parmajean was good. Honestly feel that it would have been great with the dry rub seasoning alone. Service was attentive and friendly. Chicken tenders off the kids menu is what would be expected. The pub burger, beef sandwich with dip were both fantastic.

UPDATE 2: Changed back to a 4 because QR is gone!

UPDATE: Changed from 4 to 3 due to the terrible QR ordering they now have. It’s annoying and doesn’t fit an establishment like this. Please go back to using people!

Great place to go for good food and beer. Had the ribs, elk burrito, fish and chips and much more, all pretty solid. Get a pretzel with cheese sauce, you won’t be disappointed. It’s on the pricier side for the area but it’s worth it. Service has always been great. DO MAKE RESERVATIONS! They can be very busy, hour long waits if you don’t. Huge area outside to sit and have a beer or order sandwiches.
