Reviews
Seating area isn’t huge, and the place is popular so come early to make sure you get a spot.
We’ll definitely be back to try the other options on the menu!
The other aspects of Cobani are fine. The decor is cozy & well-done. The service was friendly enough and the food took the expected amount of time to get ready.
But now we get to the food itself, and this is where it mostly went wrong:
– The hummus was not good enough to be worth nearly $10.
– The Lamb & Beef Gyros Wrap was a sufficient portion for the price, but the meat was not seasoned well enough. The other wrap fillings were average.
– The other kebab plates were similarly mediocre, and they are less worthwhile given the quantity of food.
The only well-received dishes (in terms of taste) were the beyti and lamb shank. But I’d expect better from the “bread & butter” of any Mediterranean restaurant.
Overall, maybe it was a bad day for Cobani, but I don’t see much reason to return. Even on the Peninsula, there are more trustworthy & reliable spots for gyros & kebabs.
They also had a Turkish beer we usually do not see in the U.S. and were so happy to have found! Bomonti
What a great find! Highly recommend!!
Listen, I’ve had falafel before. I thought I knew what falafel was. Turns out I’ve been living a LIE. These golden orbs of chickpea perfection have fundamentally changed my understanding of what’s possible in this world.
Crispy on the outside? Check. Fluffy on the inside? Double check. The kind of herbaceous flavor that makes you close your eyes and question every life decision that led you to NOT eating this falafel sooner? TRIPLE CHECK.
I’m not saying this falafel cured my existential dread, but I’m also not NOT saying that. I’ve already been back three times this week. My wallet is crying but my taste buds are throwing a party.
If you’re in San Mateo and you don’t stop by Cobani for this falafel, are you even really living? Asking for a friend (me, I’m the friend).
10/10 would marry this falafel if it were legal.
The food was amazing—finger-licking good and generously portioned. Both the wrap and the kebab plate came with a fresh, crunchy salad. For the price, the food was worth it. Although I am not a resident of California and found it a bit expensive, it may not seem so to locals. Regardless, if you enjoy Mediterranean food, you should definitely check this place out. We loved it and highly recommend it.
