I’ve been here a few different times now and each time I’ve been very disappointed. Their food basically doesn’t have flavor, and is often very dry. I’ve tried menu items at all price points over my visits and it stays that way regardless of how nice of a dish you order.
Their chicken is especially poor—it tastes exactly like cheap canned chicken if you’ve ever had that, but who knows how it’s actually made.
As for the rest of the experience: the staff has always been nice and friendly, but the overall atmosphere is lacking life.

Food was good and reasonably priced, waiter was on top of everything, didnt have any sort of off smell on the inside only reason for 4 stars on food is the flan wasn’t all that fresh.

We were greeted with chips and a full-flavored salsa that was smooth and tasty, though not spicy — a nice mild start to the meal.
Unfortunately, they were out of the Tacos de Lengua (cow tongue), but we decided on the Steak Fajitas and Tacos de Asada instead.
The fajita meat was tender and flavorful—seasoned well without overpowering the fresh taste of the vegetables, creating a perfectly balanced dish. The tacos were also delicious and tender, though the meat portions felt a bit on the smaller side.
Our server was prompt, attentive, and made sure we were well taken care of. Overall, Casa Azul offered a pleasant dining experience with quality flavors and good service — definitely a place we’d return to.

I hate to say it, but seeing the roach crawling up the wall behind the bar was not appetizing. The unmopped floor heading into the kitchen caused my mind to wander. What’s it like back there?

There was absolutely no seasoning whatsoever on the shredded chicken or ground beef tacos (the beef was kinda grey, did they boil it or something?); they also did not have an alcohol license when I went on 12/30/25, despite advertising a happy hour on their sign outside. The house salsa was fresh and flavorful with lots of herbs and the picosa reminded me of my ex’s mom’s so it’s clear someone back there knows what they’re doing.

Have always had a great experience when visiting Casa Azul restaurant in Coralville. On this most recent visit my wife had the Steak Fajita Chimichanga, and I had the Chili Colorado. Must also mention the fact that there are chips and salsa is terrific. I’m showing you photos of our dishes you can see that they were served nicely. After all was said and done, those of you that follow me know that I made a trip to the men’s room because I always consider the condition of these facilities when rating a restaurant. Can I tell you that even if 5:00 p.m. in the evening the restroom was neat and tidy. Great job Caza Azul, and we’ll see you again soon.

The look and feel are great and our server was good too. The food is definitely not up to par with pricing – we had enchiladas and choripollo and they were good, but not good enough to justify prices in the $15-19 range. We also heard the microwave going off many times over the course of our visit. Ultimately a fine experience but a lot of improvement would lead to a more satisfying value overall.
