Unassuming but wonderful little restaurant. Friendly welcome (including dogs on selected tables), lovely staff, and incredible food. I ate from the main menu – the crab crumpet was delicious and the fish & chips might be the best I’ve ever had. My partner chose from the specials menu – some astonishingly good seabass gravadlax and a superb halibut main. Even had good beer on cask! Honestly can’t fault this place. Worth booking ahead as they were busy and turning people away.

Absolutely fabulous place. My friend and I ordered starters and the sharing platter, which in hindsight, meant we should’ve skipped the starters because the portion sizes are incredible.
The seafood was unbelievably fresh and super tasty, and the amount of food you get is amazing, so worth the price. The service was great too; really helpful and friendly throughout. Would absolutely recommend and can’t wait to go back!

We called at The Potted Lobster in the coastal village of Bamburgh midweek, it was full. A warm welcome from staff when we arrived. A bustley vibe with diners enjoying their food. Lots of specials both starters and mains. We had the scallops special, which were fresh, sweet and meaty. Our mains were selected from the specials board, hake with gnocchi in a sun-dried tomato cream sauce and halibut with fries and salad with lobster truffle mayo. The fish was delicious and perfectly cooked. The portions are large, so much so we had to say no to pudding. The staff were friendly, professional and efficient. When we pointed out an issue it was dealt with immediately! We had a lovely evening chatted to other diners who were visiting the area. A must if you’re in Bamburgh, but book a table or you may be disappointed.

We had a delicious dinner for four here. I had moules marinaire which were a bit shell broken but tasty and we had turbot and langoustines and other tasty dishes. We had the local cheese platter for dessert which was really fab.

Brilliant seafood resturant! Myself and my partner had a two course meal here, ‘Potted Lobster’ to start, followed by seafood linguine and half lobster. Starters arrived promptly and were lovely, followed by the mains which were out of this world. Linguine was delicious and creamy, with loads of muscles, prawns, lobster and crab pieces. The lobster was lovely and tender with a gorgeous sauce and chips. Meal size was just right for two courses. Atmosphere was nice even with the restaurant being packed and staff were attentive and friendly. Would highly reccomend!

If you’re a fish lover then you must try the fish Platter, a very generous portion that I think any couple would struggle to finish.
Cooked fish was perfect and the cold and cured selection was great quality.
There was a great selection of items and it was served with some very good sides (chips and salad).
The restaurant is also dog friendly and I would recommend anyone who is in the local area pay it a visit.

We’re were all looking forward to try some seafood and lobsters here during our holiday here. The staff were friendly and attentive. We had fried squid, scallops and cod cheeks for starters. Then we had lobsters, plaices and halibut for mains. They were all tasty and fresh but we were not impressive. In addition they forgot the vegetables that came with the plaice so we had to remind them. The vegetables were nice but the beans were not trimmed. For deserts we had some lemon tart, tiramisu and chuck bun with chocolate and they were delicious. We did enjoy it but considered the price and the overall taste of the food, I would give it 4 stars.

Fantastic lunch, fish fish and fish, oh and partridge. Starters are decent portions, we had 2 each, definitely recommend. Dog friendly area in the restaurant.

This restaurant had been highly recommended to us, so my partner and I were looking forward to visiting. Before arriving, we actually called ahead to ask whether we needed to reserve a table. The gentleman we spoke to on the phone clearly told us that a reservation was not necessary and that we could simply turn up.
However, when we arrived, the experience quickly became confusing and frustrating. We were greeted by a member of staff who immediately informed us that fish and chips were no longer available. This was surprising, but we accepted it and were seated at our table.
Shortly afterwards, a couple who had been seated next to us were told that they could order fish and chips. Naturally, this left us feeling confused, as it was something we would have happily ordered ourselves. When we politely queried this with the waitress while placing our order, we were told that the reason we could not order fish and chips was because we had not reserved a table in advance.
This directly contradicted the information we had been given on the phone before arriving. If reservations were required for certain dishes, this should have been clearly communicated when we specifically asked about booking a table.
The whole situation felt poorly handled and highlighted a clear lack of communication between staff. What should have been a simple and enjoyable meal turned into a frustrating and disappointing experience.
Unfortunately, because of this, I have to leave a one-star review.

As a tourist being guided by locals, it was such a treat to have them steer me towards the Potted Lobster. Fabulous food, very fresh fish, crackling seasoning, and a cosy night in after a long (and lovely) day on the cold and windy beach, I can’t express how delightful it was to be there! The staff was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, and despite our large appetites we were full up quite quickly due to the generous portion sizes and array of dishes to try. I don’t remember the name of it unfortunately but I indulged in a lovely chardonnay when I was there, which was a treat as well. Thanks again to the chef and staff — I can’t wait to visit again!
