Such a cozy space, and staff couldn’t have taken better care of us. Enjoyed a cocktail at the bar and then a delicious dinner. I had the fish and chips special, perfectly prepared large pieces of cod, and I loved the light touch of vinegar on the fries. Honestly probably the best fries ever. My companion had the broasted chicken and was pleased that he could order all dark meat. Very happy with his meal also. Great choice in Saugatuck.

Phil’s Bar & Grille is exactly the kind of place you hope to stumble upon when visiting a new town. We stopped in for lunch and local beers, and from the moment we walked in, it was clear why this spot kept getting recommended to us. The atmosphere is unapologetically local — full of regulars who clearly love the place — which immediately gave it an authentic, welcoming feel rather than anything manufactured or touristy.

The food was solid, satisfying bar-and-grill fare, and the local beers were a great way to sample what the area has to offer. Everything came out as expected and paired well with a relaxed midday stop. Service was truly perfect — attentive, friendly, and efficient without hovering. It felt natural and genuine, the kind of service that comes from people who know their place well and enjoy taking care of guests.

Pricing was fair and reasonable, especially considering the quality of both the food and the experience. There weren’t any gimmicks or unnecessary extras — just a straightforward, well-run bar and grill doing what it does best.

Phil’s is clearly loved by locals, but it’s just as welcoming to travelers. If you’re passing through and want a place that represents the community well, this is it. We’d absolutely recommend it to both tourists and locals alike and wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

We were eating in a breakfast place in Holland and the owner told us this is the only place they would eat at in the area. Turned out this is definitely one of the best place in the area!

We needed to wait for an hour or so for our table because it was busy on a Saturday at 7 PM. We didn’t mind it and the owner was super nice to us.

Food was great and waitress was nice! Definitely need to get the ribs. I love my walleye. The only downside is maybe the veggies need more seasoning or salt. Otherwise it would be perfect. However I would still give this place a 5 stars because I felt welcome in here and people seemed to enjoy this place. It’s a happy place with a good vibe!

Phil’s came highly recommended, And I’m so glad that we went there to celebrate my husband‘s birthday! We started with the sea scallop appetizer, which was wonderful, along with a couple of generous cocktails! For dinner, I had the lake perch, and he had the special, which was 2 bone-in pork chops with Butternut squash. He said it was the tenderest pork chops he ever had (and he just turned 70, so… ). We shared a vanilla gelato, ice cream sandwich, with which they topped with a birthday candle. The service and atmosphere were just perfect! This is another place. We will definitely go back to when we visit that area! Thank you For helping to make my husband’s birthday so special.

This place was crowded the two nights we stayed and wanted to see if it was worth the hype. It totally was. The salmon and the crispy chicken sandwiches were both 5/5. They have crayons so you can color all over the table (even as an adult!) and the staff are so friendly. Would definitely be back and recommend this place to anyone staying in the area looking for delicious food.

Our favorite dinner spot in Saugatuck. The salmon & wings are absolutely stellar and the atmosphere is like an inside secret everyone is happy to share. Local art on the walls; boisterous, convivial energy; low light & lively jazz; the perfect balance between relaxation and quality. Come here and feel like you’ve always been at home in this place. What’s not to love?

The ladies did a good job serving us. We really like the chicken wings appetizer. It’s messy, but tasty, and they gave us wet napkins so we can clean our hands. The space is small, so there was a wait, but it’s got some charm. We do want to come back to try other entrees.

First timers and we loved the drinks and food! The day time female bartender on Friday was amazing and extremely friendly. If I was a local it would definitely be a place I would hangout at.

Great food. The tuna poke appetizer was very good, as well as the filet mignon for the entree. Always consistent food and they have great cocktails and a very nice wine selection.

TLDR: food was good, service was BAD. I only come out to Saugatuck to see my uncle and he won’t be returning, otherwise I might give it another chance.

I’m late on this review, I know, but better late than never (for me and my review points, that is- not so much for Phil’s Bar & Grille .)

We asked if we could sit outside but in the shade, as it was a hot summer day but very enjoyable in the shade. They said yes, as long as there wasn’t another table with 4 people on the list that also wanted to sit outside. It was just my uncle and me- a table of two, and the table that was fully in the shade was a 4 top. They sat us at the two top in full sun, and the 4top remained empty. We asked if it was possible to move to the 4 top and they said no, that a 4 top was coming. They proceeded to sit another couple there instead…. We were like… ok???

Fine. So we order drinks and are about to order an appetizer and the server starts talking to the table next to us instead- we my uncle was mid-sentence and she blatantly ignored him. I got her attention again before she left the patio and she acted annoyed.

We decided then that we shouldn’t expect better service for the rest of the meal, and that’s what we got. Very minimal service with almost a blatant disregard for our being there. The sun was mega hot and we soon regretted sitting outside.

For appetizers we got the Goat Cheese Croquette- Warm goat cheese, romesco sauce, toasted almonds and scallions served with toast points and drizzled with truffle oil. It was good- I liked it more than my uncle, but the food was warm and it very hot outside, so I think that had something to do with it.

He ordered **”The Burger”*- 1/2# ground Moraine Park Farms Michigan Craft Beef* (Zeeland, MI) grilled to temperature served on a toasted ciabatta bun with your choice of toppings. He reportedly liked it, but it was so hot out that we lost our appetite and couldn’t finish our meals.

I got the Fish Tacos- 3) Beer battered and flash fried Cod fillets wrapped in your choice of corn or flour tortillas with avocado, cabbage, homemade fresh salsa, light lime-yogurt sauce and tortilla chips. They were super good, but it was a TON of food! I didn’t expect that much fish, which was nice, but again, it was so hot out, I couldn’t finish my meal.

If the service wasn’t so bad, I could convince my uncle to give this place another go. Phil’s had a nice atmosphere and the food was good, but really, the constantly being ignored in favor of other tables while we’re mid-sentence ordering our food from the server, after being told that we can’t sit where another couple is soon sat because “they need to keep it open for a 4 top” was too much for my uncle to try again. Hopefully review readers have a better experience than we had!
