After being disappointed that several of the museums we wanted to see were closed on the day of our visit we stopped here for lunch. And we were glad we did.
The wife ordered quesadillas and I forgot the name of what I ordered. But it was all good, we found the food to be good and tasty. The chips and salsa had a nice spicy tang to it as did our dishes.
The waitress was fast and attentive; always ready to refill a glass or see if we lacked for anything.
All in all it was a good dining experience at the time of our visit.
Not to forget, there are pictures lining the walls that I believe are for sale.

We are from Texas and stop by here every time we’re passing thru on I-40. It is one of my 3 favorite NM restaurants, and NMex food lays a beatdown on brown TexMex chow. It’s not even close.

Combination plate Xmas style was great, especially the delightfully crispy relleno. Green chile stew had a red color – my favorite way to do it – and had great homestyle flavor. Properly brewed, nice and dark colored iced tea was some of the best we’ve had.

Service from David and others was excellent – attentive without being overbearing – and watching David handle the place as it filled up on a Saturday lunch rush was impressive – he does a great job. Tip him well.

I discussed reviews that claimed they were rude with a nice young lady whose name I didn’t get and the answer was clear – they suffer fools poorly. Good for them. Nobody should have to put up with loony, entitled customers. Act well and be treated well. It’s very simple.

This is a really good place. I look forward to our next visit.

We saw La Cita from the road and had to circle back to try it while we were in town.

This place has been around since 1940 and it’s part of the rich history of Route 66.

The staff were friendly and our waitress was super fast on the refills. It’s easy to give them 5 stars for their great service. It had a fun quiet family restaurant vibe and all the other couples and families seemed to really enjoy themselves too.

The food was great, as were the portions. I’m not usually someone who brings back leftovers but I did this time and that might be because I ate a lot of chips and salsa before my meal came – I also don’t normally fill up on those before dinner, but they were really good and came with 3 types of salsa.

The worst Mexican food I’ve ever had in my entire life. Canned chicken, zero seasoning, not even salt. This place is for people with literally no tastebuds.

This was a nice bright spot in the historic route 66 town of Tucumcari. Everything about the food screened fresh. From the chips to the salsa. The atmosphere in the restaurant goes with the rest of the atmosphere in this city that really plays up the route 66. Our waitress was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Lots of cool little things to buy in there if you’re looking for souvenirs.

Stopped in for lunch. staff was nice, we got seated very quickly. The table was clean and the inside of the building was pretty cool and clean also. The waitress took our order and food was out within 6 or 7 minutes. Sweet tea was good and so was the nachos and the fajitas! Shout out to the waitress and waiter who helped us!!

Stopped in New Mexico while driving to Kentucky. We didn’t know where to eat in the town but we got a recommendation from the night clerk at our hotel. It was well worth the little bit of a drive to get there! We all had things to eat, tacos chicken and beef, cheese enchiladas and a carne asada burrito! We had beers and margaritas! We all loved it!

Sunday road trip and stopped for a quick bite to eat and a beverage. Warm, friendly and welcoming greeting as we entered and were seated. All staff, including our server were friendly and pleasant. The 3 beef tacos and fresh French fries were quite tasty. We’re not able to comment on the buffet or other seating, since we did not explore. However, everything we did see appeared nice and very clean. Id say we can definitely recommend the La Cita a great spot to stop for a traveler.

We ( wife and I ) Stopped in Tucumcari New Mexico for the night and needed dinner. I saw this place on line and we decided to try it WIW, Such good food! Everything tasted very good, though a bit more cheese than I usually eat, it was all well prepared and delicious. I had a sampler platter and my wife, chicken enchiladas. I recommend stopping if in Tucumcari, or if you live there and haven’t tried it, do go and try it.

Second time at La Cita and the food is always delicious. Prices are very fair and we really enjoy dining here.
The only issue has been service. On both visits, we overheard waitresses discussing the inconvenience of guests sitting in certain areas. I understand adjustments can be frustrating, but those conversations shouldn’t be heard by customers…it makes things uncomfortable. One waitress also seemed a bit bothered during our first visit, though service overall was still decent.
That said, the food keeps us coming back. Just hoping for a bit more professionalism in the future.
