The beer cheese soup was phenomenal. The smoky flavor came right through but it was heavy – the cup was perfect for an appetizer!
The Reuben was solid (better than I expected); although I’d recommend exploring the menu if you’re feeling up to it.
If you’re staying anywhere near the stadium, this is a MUST GO! Hope to be back soon.
The very first bite of steak, covered in that buttery seasoning, literally melts in your mouth. “Delicious” is an understatement. And don’t even think about skipping the warm beer bread… it’s a must. Served with cream cheese and bacon jam, it’s the kind of appetizer you keep talking about long after you leave.
To drink, the Hard Apple Cider was the perfect pairing, and their variety of handcrafted beers is like nothing else, so many great options, all with that signature Schlafly quality.
Save room for dessert because the apple strudel is next-level. Words can’t describe how tasty it is—you just have to try it.
On top of the food and drinks, the waiter was one of the best we’ve had—attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. The atmosphere is genuinely unique and adds so much to the overall vibe.
We’ll 100% be back. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Tap Room complex is made up of two interconnected buildings, both dating to around the turn of the 20th century. Prior to becoming a single building, the southern portion of the complex was occupied by the Olive Hat Mfg Co, which made straw hats, between at least 1903-1905. This part of the building was later leased by the Terre Haute Brewing Company in June of 1935 as a beer distribution center (a forerunner to Schlafly’s operations later on!)
The northern portion of the building (at the corner of Locust and 21st street) was built between 1901 and 1902 for the Lambert-Deacon-Hull Printing Co. It was later occupied by the John S. Swift Printing Co., which purchased the building in 1939. The John S. Swift Printing Co. was still operating out of the space when a huge fire swept through downtown west in April 1976, destroying or damaging multiple buildings, including 2100 Locust. The structure was vacant until Schlafly renovated and reopened the building as Missouri’s first microbrewery in late 1991.
The charm of these old factory buildings is undeniable. The historic architecture and many interior features have been artfully preserved, lending to the warm, lived-in atmosphere of the Tap Room.
Highly recommend you visit!

I tried samples of the raspberry (it was very light on raspberry), pumpkin ale (dessert in your mouth!), vanilla pumpkin ale (the original is better), and cider (very nice and refreshing)! The sample size was enough for me to enjoy what I needed. I can’t imagine drinking a full glass of beer! I’m a cocktail girlie… and behold, I ordered and g and t, fabulous!
This is a nice place to drinks and food. My friend had a delicious pretzel with a slightly spicy mustard sauce. My other friend got the wings which she liked but a lot for one person.
Def check it out! 🙂
If you need that traditional dining vibe, they got you over in the dining room. If you need that casual beer vibe – they got you over in the bar area. The Tap Room has a gorgeous event space upstairs and a wonderful little courtyard for when it’s nice outside. Parking is safe and ample at the location.
These days, you will find me and my family over in the bar area. We typically post up on a couch or a tall top, but I can tell you that the bar staff (Josh and Aliya) are who truly make the experience amazing for us.
Join their loyalty program to get a free beer for joining. You also get a free beer and dessert during your birthday month. Foodwise, you can’t go wrong with the pub burger, but I’ve not had bad food at this spot. Beer-wise, there are enough styles for everyone to find something they like. I highly recommend the APA if you like hops. Schlafly told me they are bringing back my IPL because I posted this review. (It’s on the internet, so it has to be true!)
is funny and conversational but not at all intrusive. Eric has an innate sense of what each patron needs to make their visit enjoyable. when you stop by – and stop by you must! – be sure to ask Eric about his map. It’s a great story and shows the staff is passionate and engaging. They obviously love their jobs.
