We were extremely disappointed with our recent visit to Nielsen’s Frozen Custard.

We placed an order for three custards:
• Chocolate with hot fudge
• Vanilla with cherry chunks and hot fudge
• Vanilla with cherry chunks and brownie chips

When the order was handed to us, the chocolate custard was completely melted—liquid, milkshake-like, and noticeably half empty. The two vanilla custards were also extremely liquidy and not at all the consistency of frozen custard.

I immediately expressed my dissatisfaction and asked to return the order. ($19.50)The young woman who identified herself as the manager proceeded to argue with me through the window, insisting the issue was caused by the hot fudge. I explained that this is how we always order our custard and have never once received it in this condition.

We were genuinely craving frozen custard and were excited to enjoy it, which made the experience even more disappointing. Instead of acknowledging the issue, the interaction became confrontational. Meanwhile, another gentleman—who also identified himself as a manager—handled the situation professionally, apologized for her behavior, and attempted to assist.

Even the refund process was confusing, as they appeared unsure how to process it. I hope they did it correctly and I will receive the money back on my acct. ( quite honestly, it wasn’t even about the money)

This experience was frustrating and fell far below the standard we’ve come to expect from Nielsen’s. Poor product quality combined with argumentative customer service is unacceptable. Sadly, this visit left a very negative impression.

Ordered a chocolate with mint and it was half melted with the mint flavor drizzled on top. It didn’t taste like mint it was like cough syrup and genuinely gross. No matter how much I stirred the flavor wouldn’t go away and pretty soon that was all I tasted through the concrete. Super bitter disgusting aftertaste.
Would not recommend ordering the mint topping

Sad.

It was a beautiful sunset so we walked to get custard.

There were four high school kids running the place, and they were just standing around not doing much. One was eating his own sundae while “working”.

We asked to order and we were instructed to get in line between the cars and walk up to the window when it was our turn.

We didn’t want to sit there and breathe in fumes from all of the idling cars, and have somebody slipped their foot off their break and smash our knees.

So, we asked if we could order and wait on the bench, they said no and denied us service.

We walked home without custard.

This needs to change. There is a large trashy/dirty lobby and plenty of staff to serve in doors.

This place could be a cute local favorite, but it caters to the drive-thru and doesn’t care about local people who walk to get custard.

The drive-thru becomes way too long and wraps around the street at an extremely busy intersection causing blockage and driving hazards and walking hazards.

This is an absolute community nightmare that needs to change.

The raspberry concrete is to die for, which you might have to do based on which teenager is working there. It’s all part of the fun though

So I discovered this place when I moved to Salt Lake in 2013. It is absolutely the best, hands down, ice cream anywhere. Extremely consistent and better than anything else I’ve tried in my life.
They used to be open on the inside, but it was basically an indoor walk up. They never really had tables or anything to sit, but a couple standing tables. Now I think it’s still closed on the inside after covid… Drive up only.

Last two times have been terrible.

Paid for a double scoop, I only get one. This time order a sundae, and its 50% or more hot fudge. Its very expensive ice cream to not get that A1 experience. Period.

I’ve driven by this place a hundred times (I live in New Orleans).

It’s good. I like custard but it’s been a few years. I like other places better – I found it a bit too sweet. They have only two flavors: vanilla or chocolate. Then you can adding toppings. I never tried the concrete so it will take time for me to update my review. Overall, I liked it. Note: A single cone is a double scoop. So a double cone is four scoops.

DON’T EAT NIELSENS FROZEN CONCRETES

We came for concretes. We are wondering what has happened to the product? The disgusting artificial aftertaste of both the vanilla and chocolate was bad enough that I will be throwing mine away.

There was a lack of strawberries in the concrete shake. As a business owner, I hate to leave a bad
review online, but there is a lack of quality, and/or
cheapening of the products resulting in a taste that was not worth the $8. I hope you can improve so that you don’t lose customers.

Sadly disappointed. We came as a group of two families and will not be returning again unless we hear of great changes in your products.

This shop delivers on flavor and value, hands down. The ice cream is delicious, the “flavor of the day” offerings keep things fresh and fun, and the pricing is more than fair. A single scoop is incredibly generous, making this a sweet stop for budget-conscious indulgence.

However, the service experience here has consistently fallen short. Despite the line out front which could be a sign of success, it often seems to stem more from slow and distracted service than high demand. Most of the staff appear to be teens, and while I understand this may be a first job for many, the lack of attentiveness and professionalism is hard to overlook. Phones, chatting, and casual attitudes create a vibe that feels more like a hangout for the workers than a workplace.

This could be a great opportunity for the owner to reinvest in training, supervision, or perhaps incentives to encourage a more customer-focused approach. With such a strong product, the right service could really elevate the entire experience.

So while the ice cream keeps me coming back, I brace for a wait and hope for improvement in how the front of house is run. This place has potential, it just needs to catch up behind the counter.

Two girls at the front were beyond rude – they laughed at us while we were looking at the menu and gave the nastiest customer service experience ever. Go to literally ANY where else – I’m sure they gave far superior customer service
