A group of fellow business owners, and I stopped by Charlie’s old-fashioned kitchen today. Charlie’s is the epitome of down home, make your soul feel great, made from scratch cooking that makes everybody feel like grandma’s in the back! I enjoyed the fish and chips option this afternoon. The piece of fish was incredibly thick and extremely flaky on the inside. The beer batter was perfect. A side salad and fries were just the thing to compliment to the dish. It was so good that other people had to try it. Everyone seemed to not only love their food, but the experience and the atmosphere as well. Heather, the owner, was a superb host and Erin our server, did an impeccable job. I would highly recommend this hometown gem to anyone that would love to have a delicious meal at a great price.

If you’re looking for a nice little place to have a quick bite while still enjoying a restaurant experience, this is it. Food is hot though house cut fries were covered in oil and were a bit soggy. The other fries were crispy and cooked well. Service was okay and so was the food.

Charlie’s Old Fashioned Kitchen in Royse City has a great look and vibe the moment you walk in. The place is clean, spacious, and has that classic diner feel that makes you want to settle in and enjoy a good meal. And to be fair, the food was great — no complaints there.
But the service on this visit just didn’t connect the way I hoped it would. We waited quite a while before anyone came over to take our order, and there were only two other couples in the entire place. I could see the server was working solo, and I definitely give grace for that, but with the restaurant as empty as it was, the pace still felt unusually slow.
After our food came out, we had to wave her down for napkins, then again for a refill, and then again for the check. I had a meeting to get to, so every extra delay added a little more stress to the meal. It wasn’t a bad experience, but it also wasn’t smooth enough to feel comfortable coming back on a tight schedule.
Overall, the restaurant itself is great and the food hits the mark, but the service needs some tightening up. For now, it’s a solid 3-star experience.

Food was really good. Chicken fried steak was well made and had good flavor. My buddy had a burger and he was very pleased. Staff was polite and attentive. Very clean and nice ambiance.

My business partner Erik and I hosted our biweekly local networking event at Charlie’s Old Fashioned Kitchen, and it was a great experience. Heather was gracious enough to open the restaurant for our group and even provided a private room, which was perfect for networking. The turnout was fantastic, there was plenty of parking, and everyone received their food quickly and efficiently.
I ordered the Dirty South turkey sandwich with fries, and it was absolutely delicious—hands down one of the best turkey sandwiches I’ve had. The food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent.
We’ll definitely be back, whether for another group lunch or just a regular visit. Highly recommend Charlie’s Old Fashioned Kitchen!

Surprised this place wasn’t packed on a Saturday! Big, delicious burgers and good fries, too! The waitress was nice as well. We got the Fried Jalapeños/Pickles which were great, I love how thick the pickles were. Then we got the Avocado Burger and Egg Burger (I dont remember the actual name). Prices were reasonable, especially for the size of the burgers. Do plan on coming back!

Charlie’s is awesome! The family had; kids chicken tenders, turkey club sandwich, and the mushroom Swiss burger. The food was amazing. There were absolutely no complaints. Everyone loved the food. Even the youngest kiddo, who is usually picky, ate every bite. The service was excellent. Hostess was so sweet and pleasant ad we entered. The waitress was super personable and attentive, without being overbearing. She was wonderful. Loved the environment. Great decor, with major small town vibes. Clean, well layed out, and looked cozy. I’ll definitely be back again! Highly recommend trying this place out.

This was our first visit to this restaurant and we were very pleased with the food and cleanliness. Our waitress, Hailey, took great care of us and even made some concessions on our food and drinks to meet our wants. The bacon blu burger was outstanding. Very juicy and flavorful. The hostess was very friendly and seated us right away. It’s well worth dealing with a little construction for a pleasant dining experience. Try it!

Excellent experience! Hailey, our server, was awesome—attentive, friendly, and truly went above and beyond. Our food came out fast, the seating was comfortable, and everything ran smoothly. While Coke Zero was offered instead of Diet Coke (a downside for us), Hailey took the extra step to go to the bar and get Diet Coke from the fountain gun. That level of service was greatly appreciated. We will definitely be back!
