This place has been around for ages, used to come here in the 80s with my mom, and came back to town this year for her 75th birthday.
Seems like the second floor is no longer being used, but there is an outdoor area and plenty of seating inside. Food is a strange mix of Mexican and Cajun. Guacamole was good, a little heavy on the lime. Gazpacho was good, my pork belly tacos were a bit of a disappointment.
Service was good, the patio was a little humid for my liking but things were clean and roomy.

Food was good.
We were surprised to be seated up on 2nd floor looking at a wall while there were seats in lower level.
I am certain it would have been a different experience.
Rated top Mexican?
Not sure about that.

Some of, if not the best Mexican food I have ever eaten! The atmosphere is casual, but the service is top-notch. If I lived closer I would probably eat there four times a week. Highly recommend!

We love this place! Food is consistently good and has improved with the new owners in comparison to the previous owners (from over 10 years ago).
Mondays are $5 house margaritas, which are great. It is a very good deal and they are consistently prepared.
Cuckoo’s Nest also has happy hour each day, but it is often difficult to find a space in the bar as it is small and seems to have its regulars that attend and occupy the seats. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try to go. I wish I could get a spot there, but I am often with my children when I go there, which means no sitting at the bar for us!
Overall, a great local place with very good Mexican food for the Connecticut shoreline. I recommend you give it a try!

Want a good Michelada?? This is where to get one!! Food is decent. My steak quesadilla was a bit too greasy for me only ate half, took the meat out and mixed with some rice and beans. Daughter enjoyed the birria quesadilla and Grand Princess like her cheese one. The rice and beans were good.
Nice lively spot. The manager was really nice – kept going to the tables to check on people. Nice to have that kind of service and attention. The waitress seemed to have too many tables (took a while to get our drinks and check after)but she made it work.

Very quaint spot for some of the best Mexican food in CT. We visited in early December for a late lunch. Cozy and eclectic vibes in the dining room, which was decorated for Christmas with trees and lights. Great atmosphere. It wasn’t too crowded, no wait for a table which was nice. Chips could use a bit more salt but that’s just a personal preference. The salsa was great with just enough spice. Chicken quesadillas, nachos, and burrito were all hearty portions. Everything was delicious. We only got through about half of everything, so had plenty of leftovers to take home. Despite being positively stuffed from our entrees, I managed to rally and devour the warm skillet cookie – which was perfectly underdone with lots of warm, melty chocolate. Very rich, but I love my sweets so it was perfect. The portion size was just right – a bit smaller than a crumbl cookie. Will definitely be back.

Was visiting the shore and decided to try this place base upon reviews in Find Me Gluten Free. We were not disappointed. Great atmosphere, large menu with plenty of gluten free options, the food was delicious and our server Dianna was super helpful and answered all of gluten related questions. Definitely will return.

Absolutely delicious authentic Mexican food tonight. First time we’ve been to Cuckoo’s Nest. We came to see our favorite acoustic duo, The Mediums. Great vibe, colorful atmosphere, stellar service & fabulous food. We will be back!

Got a to go order a combo plate tamale and taco hard shell with rice and beans. There was plenty of food, however the taco shell fell apart there was no crispness. The tamale was ok and the rice and beans lacked flavor. Dessert was a mudslide pie I was expecting coffee ice cream cookie crumbs in the center and for the crust with chocolate sauce it was a pie with Oreos and a cherry smush for sauce. It wasn’t worth the calories or price. Maybe eating there would be different

Sue is Great! I was such a nitpicker on the phone ordering Tacos and she was extremely patient and servicial with me. Above & Beyond service. I recommend for any foodie. BUT it doesn’t stop there, upon arrival I was greeted with the best tacos in town. Mahi-Mahi, Cod, Shrimp & Salmon. All were delish and I do recommend. Please try them out, Thank Me l8r!
