I was born and raised in the Southeastern US and can confidently say the food at The Roost ain’t just the best Southern food west of the Mississippi—it’s just plain good. Slap ya mama good. The chicken ‘n’ waffles and sweet tea is my favorite brunch in Bozeman. The “See Rock City” barn decor and such adds a nice nostalgic touch. Even when I’m in Tennessee visiting my folks, I’m looking forward to the next time I’ll be hitting up The Roost!

A note to The Roost staff: I presheatecha!

Fast, friendly and delicious . Would be a fun place to visit on the patio when it’s not snowing. Chicken was tender and waffles were fluffy. My husband really enjoyed the Nashville hot chicken sandwich as well. From Southern California, we are hot chicken connoisseurs, and this hit the spot.

We bought the fried chicken and entrées to go, and it was delicious and very flavorful. The crispy fries, the mac and cheese with a touch of toasted bacon, were delicious, and the salad had just the right dressing. The service is fast and they prepare it instantly. Highly recommended.

Cute and clean spot but disappointing food the tenders are fresh but not crispy. I traded out the comeback sauce for pepper gravy but it was overly salty but worst was the Mac and cheese it was definitely not a southern style nicely baked with creamy cheese and flavor. It was barely cheese and bland fit for a little kid (come on man I want to love this place).I got side biscuit for a $1 for one should be 2 and not even come with butter I did snag honey near the iced tea. The paper basket in a bag was the to go container . It does feel like everything is homemade but doesn’t have “soul” or southern flavors.

Food: overall tasted good! Hot and fresh. Not huge portions.

Service: Server was friendly. It is a walk up and order establishment.

Atmosphere: really loved the patio!! Had enough space and room. Inside is a little tight.

Diners drive inn and dives hits it out of the park again. I will be back multiple times. The fried deviled eggs bomb. The chicken sandwiches bomb. Biscuits with pecan honey butter yum. Cold local beer on tap. Winter seating inside but looking forward to a nice day outside seating. Absolutely worth going to and try everything.

This was my second time at Roost and it tasted just as good as the first time. The staff is friendly and helpful and the food is fresh and tastes great. I would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for some good chicken.

Strange place honestly. The good, food was delicious. The bad, it was so dirty there. Really gross, no customers and everyone was just standing around. I honestly wondered if I’d get food poisoning. It took a long to make the food. But the chicken was fabulous. So I honestly don’t know if I’d go back. Maybe?

Roost fried Chicken was pretty good. The kids especially loved it. While it was not my favorite fried chicken of all time I would not hesitate to come back. I had the sweet heat and it was pretty good. The location and facility was pretty great and It had a good atmosphere. I wish I could have tried all the different sauces.

Good and fast, but expensive. ~$18 for not much food. I ordered the mixed 2-Piece Fried Chicken and a “large” side of Collard Greens, and a sweet tea. The classic combo familiar to any southerner. The food came out less than five minutes after I ordered it, which was a bit startling.

The sweet tea was passable, but very weak. I hadn’t expected the collards to be any good, but I was pleasantly surprised. Though a bit on the mild side, they had a pleasant vinegar flavor and a good amount of pork shavings. My only complaint is that if this little soup cup is a large order, what counts as a small? Perhaps I shouldn’t complain since collards are near impossible to find in the west, much less decent ones, but I’d pay an extra dollar or two for more.

The chicken was also pleasant, and might be authentic to some part of the south, but it doesn’t resemble the thick, crunchy chicken of the Carolinas that I’m more familiar with. It is, however, flavorful and moist, with a deeper flavor to the breading than the typical salt and fat taste of western fried chicken. Again, my only real complaint is quantity. I ordered a 2-Piece and got one thigh and a leg. A leg should not count as a whole piece. That’s half a piece, at best.

Last was the biscuit, which came gratis with the chicken, which is good since I wouldn’t buy one on its own. By far the most disappointing part. Somehow both dry and doughy, with little to no flavor to speak of. A little starch pillow. It didn’t come with butter, either, nor do the tables have any. I had to request it, and strangely they only had pecan butter. I won’t complain about that, it was actually rather nice, but the biscuit served only as a vessel for this pecanny sweetness.

Still hungry, unsurprisingly, I decided to try the ice cream they had in a freezer near the counter. “Genuine” brand ice cream, which is a name that feels inherently disingenuous, strangely. The smallest container they had was Honey Lavender, which tasted more of honey than if lavender, but wasn’t bad.

Recommended if you’re in a big hurry or want some actually decent fried chicken, but definitely not if you’re very hungry or feeding a group.
