I came in a little after 5 on a Tuesday. Since I’m not local, I did an online search and settled for this place after learning that my first choice was closed for a private event. Online there were happy hour specials and the food and reviews looked very impressive. When I was arrived I was greeted by a lovely hostess. She smiled and asked me where I wanted to sit since the restaurant was virtually empty. Once seated with a glass a water, a young man came over and advised me that he would be my waiter. I asked him what the specials were, because I know that without an in-house person running your website things can be inaccurate online. He advised me that, “this is a new menu so we don’t currently have any specials”. I was fine with that response, so i continued with my order. My food arrived very fast, and aside from the “mexican corn”, everything was great. That was until the people at the table in front of me were greeted by their waitress and she immediately ran down the list of happy hour options for them. This seemed odd since I was just told there weren’t any specials. To add fuel to the fire, my waiter was also assisting them and they asked him for clarification about some of the items she mentioned and he quickly assisted them and pointed out things on the menu for them. Sometimes the small things speak the loudest and in this case I’ve decided that maybe this isn’t somewhere myself or my colleagues should visit.

Loved it here! The atmosphere was funky but also chill. The food was amazing. They have Mexican dishes and sushi dishes. I sat at the bar and the bartender Will was great! He walked me through the menu and gave me suggestions. I’m glad I took his dish suggestion of the Lafayette roll. Literally one of the best rolls I’ve had in a long time. And he was attentive and super sweet. I also got the churro and it was very delicious, too. I’m not from here but if I were a local, I would absolutely come back 🙂

LOVE Mesu in Charleston! The vibes are so fun for a group dinner with fun drinks, ringing the gong on your birthday, and it honestly just feels like a big party in there! Also mexican food AND sushi?! What kind of genius came up with this beautiful concept! The drinks are so tasty and fun and the sushi is some of the freshest in town. It’s the perfect location for a GNO on your way to an evening on King. 10/10 recommend Mesu!

I hosted my 40 something birthday party at MESU for 20+ people a couple weeks ago. Everything from the event planning with Holly and Abby to the food and drink execution by Chef Mike and our highly attentive server Lauren was top notch. I had a vision for this event and saw it come to life. We could not of had a better time! Don’t sleep on MESU for your next group gathering!!

Interesting concept being a Mexican sushi spot! The rolls were good, but overall a bit on the pricey side. We didn’t have a reservation but got seated at the bar which was fine. We were attended to regularly and the food was good and very filling! It’s a fun vibe inside and was perfect for our girls night.

MESU is one of our favorite spots to bring friends because it’s so fun and you can’t miss on the food or drinks. Between the tacos and the sushi, the menu has something for everyone in your group. Love the philly cheesesteak taco, and every sushi roll is fire. Food always comes out quickly. Servers are all great, but the last couple times we’ve been there Will has taken care of us at the bar and he provides excellent service with a smile. We love Will!
Great spot for a birthday celebration. The guest of honor gets to smash a big gong and it usually gets the people going. Great fun atmosphere in that regard.
However, it can be loud and the bar seats are tight when it’s a packed house on busy nights. So if that’s not your vibe then you’re better off somewhere else.
Make a reservation if you can, because they get busy. But walk-ins are accepted too.

A unique mix of flavors/spices that really works. The veggie sushi roll was outstanding and the green salsa was excellent. Highly recommend.

Love this place! The crispy rice was so good — different from the “crispy rice” dishes at most places, in a good way.
The two sushi rolls we had were excellent, and we enjoyed out drinks as well.
Definitely recommend reservations. We had one but ended up sitting at the bar.

Interesting take on Mexican food, but it was very good! Sushi was also good. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Even on a Monday I am shocked that this place is not busier. We sat at the bar first with Till, who makes a great margarita and even better conversation. When our kids came down from the Hyatt we sat at a table with Abby. She was very conscientious of my shellfish allergy and knew the menu top to bottom. They fry the chips in the morning so they are gluten and shellfish free!
The food is crazy good. We had 2 rolls, the trio, and 4 different tacos and I would order every single item again. The Carne Asada tacos in particular were so fresh tasting. 5 stars, notes only because I want to share not because it’s needed.
