I dined alone in the afternoon on a weekday and the service was remarkable. Very attentive, coffee refills, and quick and affordable.
I ordered the Open Face Turkey Sandwich…a huge portion of turkey over white bread with mashed potato and smothered with their homemade turkey gravy. It comes with soup and a basket of rolls/crackers.
I got the lemon rice soup and it was very tasty and hot. The roll was also great and served hot. There were a variety of crackers in the basket.
The turkey was great and gravy paired well together. The potatoes were just okay, needed some salt & pepper. The portion was so large, I had to take some home.
The restaurant was about 1/3 full at the time and it was clean and in good repair. Checking out was quick and efficient. I would return again and try breakfast next time which I hear is pretty awesome!

I can’t say enough about this place. I’m from KY but my fiancé grew up in Hammond. We visit every two weeks and the Purple Steer is on our list at least once per trip. The prices are incredibly cheap. Don’t be fooled into thinking that means the quantity or quality is sacrificed. They serve so much food you will definitely need a to go box. Alcohol prices are also very reasonable. With all that said the best part is the cool old school atmosphere. You have to go to understand.

Whatever you’re hungry for Purple Steer has it. Typical Greek restaurant in Chicago region. I just had a pulled pork sandwich which was excellent. I also really enjoy their soups and salads. Decor desperately needs updating but the food works well for what it is. Burgers very good too.

Food is always consistently fresh, hot, good. Hostesses are always kind and pleasant. Great American classic dishes, Home town favs. Love this place! Prices reasonable large portions. Bonus: they make ranch dressing in house..best in Indy.

First time at this location. The food was good and the service was friendly and helpful. The coffee was good but could be a bit stronger. Good portions for the price u pay.

Food was delicious and reasonably priced. The only thing i didn’t like was everyone not wearing their mask and there was a man who clearly had a nasty continuous cough.. and the fact that the servers didn’t wear hair nets mask or gloves. In this day and time we just have to be more conscious of everyones safety

The greatest problem with the Steer is inconsistency. You could order an item and feel your quest for a restaurant has ended. You go back and order the same item and curse your decision to go there. They are more prone to fail. I won’t be going there for a long time to come. Who wants a $25 + disappointment? Go at your own risk. The cheese wasn’t melted on the pasta. The bacon was the replacement for the burnt bacon they sent earlier. The garlic bread was raw, uncooked. What was the point of it? I can buy food, cook at home, and do a better job; and, I am no Gordon Ramsey. I am not even a short order cook. But my attempt at a cooked exceeds their professional efforts. EATER BEWARE!

Worst restaurant ever. The soup was horrible after tasting it the soup had hair inside it and tasted awful. The croissant sandwich was Aldi brand not worth the money. The manager is clueless. The staff is nasty and don’t use hairnets. This restaurant needs to be investigated by the board of health.

I enjoyed it, but the rib tips were kind of gross. I ordered chicken strips and rib tips. I know what not to order next time. Everything else was really good loved that the soup came with buns and butter as many crackers as you needed, and the butter was spreadable. The service was good. They had drinks which was interesting. Not many restaurants sell alcohol in my opinion. Also came with some decent mashed potatoes
