At our Norfolk, VA location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

This location closed for renovations recently, and wanting some fish, I stopped at the aforementioned establishment. At the 3rd bite I’m peeling off the breading, while looking for the fish… there’s a reason they call them planks. If Capt. D’s is closed and you want some good fish.. go to Pollards and order the fish and shrimp there, yes, it’s cooked to order at the chicken place.
Basically can tell They use one tilapia fish separate to be two Pieces e of Fish , and Downtown Norfolk is use one whole piece fish.
The food just wasn’t very good overall. Fish tasted mushy. The place was clean, and the service efficient, but it couldn’t make up for the poor food quality.
Yet another chain restaurant that has seen better days. Sacrificed taste for money.

My husband and I had been craving Captain D’s.
We finally located one!!
Yay!
Or at least we thought.
After waiting in the drive thru line for approximately 40 minutes, we were asked for our order and immediately told to wait.
After another 10 minute wait— We were asked for our order in a rude manner — as if we were an inconvenience to the worker.
My husband placed an order for two fish platters, a Children’s chicken mean with sides of macaroni & cheese, coleslaw and green beans.
We pulled up to the pick-up window and they took our payment. Without a word.
My husband was handed his card back and the cashier started handing us food & drinks. We did not order drinks.
My husband advised that we did not have drinks this order may not be ours.
They asked what we ordered.
My husband then told them two fish platters and a Children’s chicken meal.
They then advised us that they had to make fresh fish and we needed to pull up and wait. My husband asked for malt vinegar and tarter sauce as our sauces and they responded they did not have any.
We pulled forward, parked and my husband proceeded to go into the building to get malt vinegar from a bottle.
He was immediately stopped and told the inside was not open to customers.
Needless to say we are extremely disappointed, the food was horrid.
The macaroni & cheese was just cheese.
The tarter sauce was opened. So we didn’t use it either.
I highly advise no one order or eat at this establishment.

I went for lunch on Wed and the poor guy behind the counter was a one man show. He tried to remain calm but it was a lot. 1st he was at the register taken the orders, then he was making the drinks. He had to bag the orders and help anyone who came to the counter for refills. Then an order came up for a dine in customer and he had to take there order to their table while there were still about 7 or 8 people in line waiting to give their orders. He had to run back to bag more orders that had come up and make more drinks. When my order came up the giant fish sandwich it was great but after I pulled out of the parking lot I realized he forgot my drinks so I became one of those 5 walk up people at the counter waiting for his assistance but not in line.
He was great with remembering people orders but it was a lot for him. Get this man some help please.
Had she listened to me instead of rushing me off of the phone she would not have MESSED the order up! Which I don’t think it would have made a difference! The chicken in ALL of the orders were so overcooked they were brown skin chicken, not golden light! She knew they were when she put them in all of the orders! She didn’t want to listen when I called cuz she knew she was gonna send what she wanted and how she wanted it! Uber saw the pictures and immediately apologized and refunding all of our money!
