The incredible reviews for Laysone’s Meat Pie Restaurant were spot on and then some! This place is a must-go when visiting Natchitoches any time of year.
The restaurant is steeped in history, but most importantly, it offers welcoming service and absolutely delicious food.
️ The Food Highlights:
Appetizers: We started with the Corn Fritters and Fried Green Beans. OMG, the Fried Green Beans were the star food of the weekend! The Corn Fritters were right there with them—a perfect start.
The Main Event: The meat pies came out, and oh my, you just can’t get a better cooked and tastier Natchitoches Meat Pie anywhere. Whether you get the beef or crawfish, they are both fantastic. The remoulade dipping sauce gives it a little extra zing if you want, but honestly, it’s not even needed.
Other Spectacular Dishes: We also enjoyed the Shrimp and Grits and the Red Beans and Rice—all spectacular!
I only wish we had room for the pies we saw on display. Go visit this gem!

We discovered that meat pies are a thing in this area. Our first experience was at another local restaurant the previous evening, and these, although different, were every bit as good. We decided to also split a crawfish version. Do yourself a favor, TRY BOTH!

If you enjoy Crawfish Pie, this is the place to go! The Crawfish Pie is outstanding! Their other menu items are outstanding as well! Very good, fast and friendly service. The prices are very reasonable with large servings that will fill you up! The restaurant is a time capsule! The walls are adorned with historical photos and documents dating back to 1967 that highlight the restaurant and it’s owners.

If you are in the area you just have to stop and try one of their famous meat patties. I was traveling with my dog so eating inside wasn’t an option for me. I do not believe that they have outdoor seating It was not visible from the from the front and I’m pretty sure there’s no outdoor dining at all. I got mine to go it is a Krispy crust not quite like a pie but crispier and lighter. The meat pie is stuffed with something sort of like corned beef hash although the consistency and flavor is quite different.

I recently tried the Meat Pie platter, Gumbo, beef stew and creole pasta salad here. The flavors were definitely a highlight – everything tasted great! My only real critique is that the serving sizes were quite small. If you’re looking for a filling meal, you might need to order multiple dishes or sides.

Loved the small town cafe feel when we walked in. Even though it was outdated, it was clean and the staff was very kind and friendly. I noticed the painting from Clementine Hunter so I was excited to see that picture right where we sat.
My friend and I wanted to experience the meat pie specifically from here because it happened to be in my 1000 places to see before you die book.
We were both a little disappointed with it but realized it was towards the end of the day so the crust was just not that good. May have to do a do over and come in more towards 11 or 12 pm.
Now as for the red beans and rice with the sausage now that was the bomb diggity! We split it and so glad we did because we were so full. The only reason we gave 4 stars was due to that sad meat pie.

Had the crawfish pie, red beans and rice and fried okra. Fried okra was above average. Meat pie and red beans were solid. In a downtown setting so parking and walking may be your best option.

Great meat pies and charming, vintage atmosphere. Our server was very friendly, and happy to chat a bit about the history of the restaurant. Had the meat pie plate, which was substantial with a nice side salad and generous portion of red beans and rice. Will be back the next time we’re in the area!

Very good southern and creole cooking. Both the crawfish pie and meat pies were very good. Maque Choux corn and dirty rice was also very good. The Red beans and rice were okay, but not my favorite. The Crawfish Etouffee was also very good and the Gumbo I thought was above average. The cornbread they serve with the Etouffee and Gumbo is also very good. Service is excellent and fast. Definitely a place I will stop whenever in Natchitoches.
