I found this spot on Reddit after seeing it recommended as one of the best breakfast places in Carlsbad, and it did not disappoint.
Quick heads-up: it’s counter service, not table service. You order at the counter, grab a number, and pick your own seat, then they deliver the food to you. I made sure to arrive shortly after they opened at 8:00 AM because I’d read that the lines can get long. Once I placed my order, I headed outside to enjoy another gorgeous morning.
I ordered the Topes Scramble (3 eggs, smoked applewood bacon, mixed cheese, and avocado) with sourdough toast and hashbrowns. Everything was delicious. I also loved the clever setup with the water faucet located outside for easy refills.
Definitely bookmarking this as a new favorite breakfast spot in Carlsbad.

We went for breakfast on a busy Saturday and waited in line for about 30 minutes, but it was so worth it. We absolutely loved Mom’s Famous Cinny Roll, the Crack Breakfast Burrito, and The Goods Toast with tri-tip. Every elevated element and thoughtful note came through in every sumptuous bite.

Yum!! Great coffee and the breakfast burritos and pastries are amazing! The cinnamon rolls are MASSIVE and full of frosting! Great indoor and outdoor casual atmosphere. Perfect for a quick bite, moment of zen or to sit and catch up on work.

Would have been a nice coffee spot except for full price for less than half a cup of coffee.
When I got it it had already felt light. I looked inside and didn’t even find the foam of a cappuccino. Good thing too because then I could really see how low the coffee was.
Looked like a chill place to be at if only its portioning was fair.

Omg so good, I ordered the Tri-tip eggs Benedict and so so good, you can actually share this with someone as they are generous with their meat. Unless you’re starving in which case maybe get your own lol. If you eat light this can feed two for sure. The tri-tip was tasty I got mine well done. Also had a Chai tea and it was also good.

Divine breakfast food! My friend suggested we try this popular restaurant down the street from her hotel while we were in town.
There was a long line outside on a Thursday morning and it was moving pretty slow. They have a large menu selection and everything on it looks good. We were drooling standing in line to order and watching all the delicious looking dishes being delivered to the other customers at their tables.
You order at the counter with the friendly staff and are given a number stand. Open seating and there is lots of it inside and outside.
A popular item was their giant cinnamon buns and it was so good! Fluffy and not too sweet. I ordered the chilaquiles and it was good too though I wish the salsa was thicker. My tortilla chips were drowning and getting soggy.
My friend who ordered the grilled cheese sandwich said it looked good but fell short. She claimed it was a bit too sweet.
Another friend ordered the omelet and loved it. The pancake was fluffy and perfectly cooked.

Stopped into Café Topes based off of the recommendation, and we were so happy that we stopped in. We started off with a dirty cinnamon bun and then moved on to lunch. Everything was very flavorful. We actually couldn’t even finish the three tacos. There was so much food.

Came here for the second time to make sure it wasn’t a fluke. I’m not sure what god came down and gifted these recipes to the chef here but bravo to both. The potatoes and the topes scramble were top notch and the guy eating next to us from Arkansas had the best looking cinnamon roll French toast I’ve seen in awhile. Keep doing what you’re doing and we will be back!
