I had a quesadilla with no meat .
I skipped the rice and the beans and jalapeño
They use sliced cheese .
I never saw it anywhere else in the world .
The quesadilla and the cheese and everything else were cold .

It need more than 1 minute to be ready .
But el Compadre does not know maybe …
I can make a better quesadilla at my place .
Nobody beat El Farolito …

Stumbled across El Castillito while in search of the Painted Ladies. The smells and the hustle and bustle from the kitchen is delightful. It is extremely small with limited seating so be prepared to take out or dine during off hours. We ordered the tacos, a burrito and the enchilada platter. I didn’t quite know what to do but the cooks were very pleasant and helpful. Warning the plates were hot! You order directly from the cooks through a window and then pickup and pay. Appreciated the variety of salsas and sauces to help myself to. Best Mexican food by far and very reasonably priced!

Why did it take me so long to visit this place? Burrito dorado is browned on both sides, even the regular burrito is huge! Super fresh and flavorful burrito, great distribution of ingredients. Both the green AND the red salsas are chunky and delicious. Love the quesadilla too, whether with chicken or beef.

Had a Quesadilla suiza. Meat had no flavor. The cheese taste like rubber. Tortilla was cold. I’ve could’ve made a better one at home. Aguas Fresas are way water down and overpriced. Place stinks. Avoid!

Surprised by how good the Al Pastor tacos were. Came here as part of a taco crawl and this was our favorite place of the night. Veggie tacos could use some love, they seems to be just a ton of rice and beans and other stuff in a huge sloppy pile.

SF native here. This is the best burrito in town. I get the pollo asado, with avocado (not guac), and their phenomenal salsa verde (and pico). Their chicken is touched by heaven. Portions are generous and evenly balanced. Tortilla grilled perfectly.

Good size portions. I ordered the carne asada burrito and they didn’t hold back on rice, beans, sour cream, pico, or carne asada. Decent selection of salsas.

1st time coming here, the food was OK, which is disappointing because of how nice the presentation was. I think it was just lacking in flavor honestly, I got the chicken quesadillas which tasted kinda dry and plain, and I tried my friends flautas which although was a great portion size, were also kinda dry and very oily. HOWEVER, the Horchata was phenomenal, some of the best ive ever had, definitely reccomend! This place has a great atmosphere and the waiters were very nice. I might come back and give them a second chance and grab a margarita I’ve heard a lot about. Will update my review in the future if my feelings change!

Easily the worst food I’ve had in sf. Would rather go to Taco Bell any day. The guacamole is runny and undersalted. Completely flavorless. The camerones rancheros sauce was so sweet it tasted like Chinese sweet and sour sauce. The salsas aren’t even half decent.

The prices on the online menu are outdated and lower than actuality and they won’t honor it.

They spilled my food everywhere and instead of giving me a new dish they just wiped the plate down a little and gave it to me.

I genuinely don’t have anything positive to say about this place other than that the chips are pretty goody and portions are huge.

Heavenly al pastor, CANTANKEROUS cooks!
If you want to sample the most succulent morsels of pork in the City, I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is: this al pastor is so rich and flavorful, it will blow out your taste buds for months on end. The bad news is: it’s guarded at all times by some sort of mythological brute–an orc or a troll or an ogre (something like that).
You’ll descend a small staircase into a dimly lit dungeon and approach the creature behind the plexiglass. Speak firmly to him, but with an air of submission. Pro-tip: if you do not look directly at the meat he places on the grill, you’re likely to be afforded a larger portion. Answer his questions as succinctly as possible and try not to ask any questions of your own, or risk inciting his wrath.
As daunting as this quest might seem, the reward that awaits you at the end is well worth the perilous journey. Godspeed!
