Ordered chicken chow mein, chicken balls, lemon chicken, chicken fried rice, beef and veggies and ginger beef. We never got our ginger beef. The chicken chow mein was very oily and not very flavourful. We got two orders of beef and vegetable and one of them had a large strip or rubbery plastic.
I called and the lady must have been too busy or didn’t understand me. I told her about the plastic and she didn’t really say anything about it, just asked if the food was good. I told her that we were missing our ginger beef but got two orders of beef and vegetables and she responded “lucky you”.
I wanted to reach out to them via email about this but they don’t have one on their website.

Horrible people. If you politely ask for food to be replaced after it has sat empty for 20 minutes, they totally overreact and act like you are asking them to move mountains. It was really a bizarre experience.
Their desserts are all factory desserts. A bunch of cheap crap they bring in from elsewhere. Even little foil sealed cups of cheesecake. The cookies get soggy from sitting in an old cooler so they are ruined. The jello could be used for a hand ball negate for some reason they add less water to it so it’s super rubbery. Their corn tastes like it’s been soaked in lard.
The turkey was good. The salad bar looked pretty good. The Chinese food was probably good but that’s just not my jam. It did look proper and well stocked though.
I honestly won’t go back again and it’s mostly because of the horrible rude customer service. It should be ok to politely point out when something simple like corn needs to be replaced. It shouldn’t be a big deal.

We gave Phoenix buffet a try after our relatives recommended it to us. We stopped for dinner on the way back to Edmonton from Calgary. The food is very flavorful and there is a good variety. Mostly Canadian Chinese food (ginger beef, sweet and sour pork, etc). The stir fried shrimp is really good. Chicken feet is also very good, they were very big. The batter on the outside of the squid was a bit too thick. The roast beef was a bit dry and the roast turkey was very dry. I tried one piece of fried chicken, the flavor was ok but it the skin was not crispy anymore. They have a lot of little cakes, but the best dessert is the cream pies and the cheesecake.

Out of Pheonix or Dragon buffet, im definitely leaning towards Pheonix being the winner these days. More selection, very clean. My highlights are BBQ ribs and ginger pork at Pheonix buffet
I used to eat at Dragon when in RD, but recently I found sharp bristles from a brush in my food there… Definitely concerning. Pheonix now the preferred spot

I tried to place an order in Phoenix for my son’s birthday, and the experience was incredibly disappointing. The woman who answered the phone was shockingly rude and condescending. I stayed polite until her attitude crossed the line — then I answered back, and she deserved it.
After the call, I checked the Google reviews and saw I wasn’t alone. The negative feedback is overwhelmingly about her rudeness. Clearly, this isn’t a one-time issue.
There was zero kindness, zero professionalism, and no sense of customer service. Birthdays should be joyful — this call was anything but.
Never again. There are plenty of other restaurants that treat people with respect and kindness. I’ll gladly buy somewhere that actually values their customers.

A great place to grab a bite to eat if you don’t care what the food tastes like. There is a large selection of stuff to try but unfortunately non of it was able to wow us today. Everything was kinda warm, and not overly flavourful. The Salt & Pepper Squid wasn’t bad. The Resturaunt is Clean, Open, and has a nice aesthetic. It’s got multiple levels of dining room which is cool for the atmosphere. The staff was friendly and attentive. I would say that if the food was hot and a bit fresher I’d add a star to this review. My dining experience was on a Monday between 7-8pm so I will try again on a weekend and see how the environment is on a weekend when it’s busier. Keep an eye out for the updated review!

Typical buffet cuisine with a large variety of dishes. I found it mediocre at best and the vermicelli noodles tasted sour!
Peanut butter ice cream was good though!

The Phyniox buffet was one of the better buffet in Red Deer, it has become more hit or miss location over the years, They have some great items when they are on a good day, the off days everything taste the same.
When they are on the Roady beef and turkey are GREAT and the grilled chicken is some of the best ever.
If I had to make a suggestion for Red Deer Chinese buffet the China Ben has been more consistent with quality over the years, with a smaller menus and cost. China Ben first in the North above Phyniox
