Went on a Friday night around 930 – very busy. Better to use online waitlist if possible. We got there and had to write our name down on the paper because the online waitlist was closed. 12 parties ahead of us and we waited about 40 minutes. Parking around that time was also very busy – parked on the far end of the lot, with only a few spaces open.

That said, the staff was friendly and helpful. Hostess was great – made sure we knew how many parties ahead of us, asked if we wanted a booth or table and joked around with the kids. Helped pass the long wait time.

We got the big booth in the back, probably large enough for 6-8 adults. Only drawback was the back door was open and a cold breeze could be felt in the booth. Hostess closed the door, but then it was opened again. Maybe for the kitchen staff?

Food was as expected – lowkey and like home. Nothing fancy and we don’t get the “nice” stuff – curry with pork cutlet is our go to. The curry is nice and a touch spicy even at “regular” level. You can pay more for higher spice levels if desired. You can also get larger portions of rice for a little bit extra. If you’re looking for volume, the large is quite large. We ended up taking the extra home. The fries were excellent last night – well seasoned with a crispy exterior and nice taste. Maybe it’s because it’s the same oil as the cutlets?

Would go back for a simple meal and will likely use the online waitlist.

Simple and delicious. They specialize in curry and it shows. You can customize it with different add ons, and even adjust how much rice. The seating is a bit crammed for the 2 person tables but the staff are very friendly and helpful. Food is great and very filling.

Located in the heart of Diamond Jamboree, Curry House Coco Ichibanya (also known as “CoCoICHI”) is a chain restaurant specializing in Japanese-style curry rice. The chain’s roots date all the way back to 1978 in Nagoya, Japan. Hard to believe but Irvine was its second US location and it opened in November of 2011!

We visited on a Wednesday evening during the dinner hour and the restaurant was packed! Credit to the wait staff who were extremely efficient and effective in seating guests, taking orders and turning over tables. I ordered the chicken cutlet curry meal which started with a Thai tea followed by the chicken cutlet curry and lastly the curry bun. I wasn’t given a choice of spice level, but I appreciate that they offer a scale that ranges from mild to level 10! Japanese curry is the only curry I will eat and CoCoICHI’s was full of flavor. I recommend adding the radishes you can find in a jar on your table to further liven up the dish. I’m not normally a fan of Thai teas, but theirs was the right amount of sweetness and an easy drink. I finished my entree and had no room left for the curry bun, but I’m def looking forward to breakfast tomorrow!

Ordered the omelet curry with chicken and vegetables around 4pm on a weekday via doordash. Everything tastes pretty good. The curry is very authentic, almost Southeast Asian, with potatoes and onions and carrots. Loved it. The omelet came filled with rice which was pretty unique. Had it with bread/naan/rice and all felt great. Doordash pickup is next door to the actual restaurant. They pack the food in a very nice study box. No problem driving close to 10 miles with it in the car. Very pleasantly aromatic food.

Went again in October, again around 4pm on a weekday to pickup 3 curries I had ordered via doordash. This was a pre-scheduled pickup and everything was ready on time. Foods were all delicious. I had the stewed chicken curry with added vegetables, and it was just so good! Their takeout container is also so nice – I end up not being able to throw those away. My friends had the okra/tofu and the veggie curry, and were also very happy.

Use to love coming here but the food quality has dropped significantly, and restaurant seems understaffed. Stewed chicken use to be chunks of meat, now is shredded chicken. Chicken cutlet was over-fried and not breaded well. Food no longer matches menu photos. On top of that, we waited 25 minutes to get seated even though there were 4 open tables the whole time. Very disappointing visit.

You guys, I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on this my whole life. I recently went to Coco Ichibanya for the first time.

Not gonna lie, I was a liiittle overwhelmed at first with everything they have on the menu, but it really just boils down to curry rice or udon, if you want to add an omelet or soft-boiled egg or other toppings, how spicy you want it…I love how everything can be customized to exactly how you like it.

Some other must-orders are the naan appetizer—I got mines topped with cheese—the spicy teriyaki fried chicken, and jumbo Thai tea that’s as big as my face.

They’ll be offering CATERING soon, and did you know that this is the only location with a full-service restaurant AND a whole separate side just for takeout?

Thanks for reading! ^-^

We had a big group for a birthday and it was all good. The best part of course is the food ! We practically ordered very thing but the favorites is the 3 type meat curry with the egg on top. It’s big and super delicious. The prices are great and the service minimal but attentive. We loved it.

Coco Ichibanya is a must visit for me and my husband whenever we’re in LA. It’s a Japanese curry house serving the best keema curry with a lot of options. For our recent visit we ordered keema curry with naan, chicken omelet curry along with a side of keema fries, with a level 8 spice level.
All the items were exceptionally great except for the fries, fries turned out to be soggy in no time.
I can’t wait to be back here☺️

This place has the best Japanese style of curry. We have tried pretty much all the dishes, I would still recommend the classic one: Chicken cutlets and veggies, the one will make you full and the flavor is good. The portion for other dishes is just ok and it can be expensive if you add some more toppings. Also It can be a little heavy if you pick the spicy level above 5. The service is good and fast, the line can be long during meal times.

Came here for dinner with my wife, it was pretty packed but it was only about a 15 minute wait and I got a text telling me when my table was ready which let us walk around the shops while waiting which was nice.

The menu has a lot of options and you can really customize your curry here. My wife is vegetarian and there was plenty on the menu for her to choose from.

It didn’t take long for our food to come out at all. I got my curry at medium spice and ended up adding more chilli powder which they had on the table so of you like your food spicy like me you might want to go higher. My wife chose no spice since she can’t handle it and it was perfect for her. Our food was nothing short of amazing, such good flavor and my pork katsu was to die for.

Staff was friendly and courteous and the service was quick. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for Japanese curry in the area.
