1934 in a neighborhood community known quaintly as the Highlands a local couple named Carl and Margaret Kaelin decided to open a family restaurant. Kaelin’s. The restaurant became known as the “birthplace of the cheeseburger” serving the first version of this timeless classic for over 70 years. This claim to fame is argued amongst historians and the real origins are unconfirmed for the record books. However, if you mention the name Kaelin’s Restaurant to anyone from Kentucky you will resoundingly here, “the cheeseburger place?” We are very excited to bring you 80/20 @ Kaelin’s and look forward to serving you in our restaurant and patio for years to come.

On a weekend trip from IN and stopped in here for lunch. We ate outside on a beautiful day and even though you were by the street, it wasn’t too loud most of the time. Our service was great and we enjoyed the lunchtime atmosphere.
The food was wonderful. I ordered the monthly burger—the Elotes burger. It was incredible and easily gets a 5/5. It was fresh and unique—perfect flavor combo. Fries were great too! I got the root beer float for dessert and it was yummy too!

We held a private event at Kaelin’s 80/20. Daniel worked with us on arrangements and menu. Stephanie provided service that evening. Everything was just perfect! The food was delicious, service was excellent, the space was lovely. All of our guests enjoyed the evening. We would definitely recommend.

4/5. Stopped in on a Sunday around noon. No wait . Was seated and had a server ready to help in a timely fashion. The menu is decent size and not too complicated . I ordered a classic burger cooked well with cheese , lettuce , tomato , and pickle . I got a side of onion rings and a strawberry milkshake. The burger came out cooked just right. Had plenty of flavors and blended well with the toppings. The onion rings were nice sized and normal portion size. I would’ve cooked maybe a minute longer but no complaints . The milkshake was decent. It had bits of real strawberry in it. They have a creamery in there that opens later in the afternoon but u can get shakes all day when building is open. Next time imma try their chocolate shake . Worth a visit if you want a good cheeseburger . Just a heads up, they did start to get busy and parking is tight

80/20 @ Kaelin’s is a cool restaurant with delicious food. Located in a beautiful area of Louisville you will not be disappointed in the burgers or service this restaurant has to offer! I got the Kaelin classic double, my wife got the burger of the month, and my daughter had a standard kids cheeseburger! All burgers were cooked perfectly. We could tell the meat was quality and it was not over seasoned! The fries were just as good as the burgers. We finished our meals off with some house made ice cream. The cookies and cream milkshake was delicious and smooth with big chunks of cookie in it! My daughter got the lemon blueberry and it was the perfect cross between sherbert and ice cream That I didn’t know existed. Overall our experience here was fantastic and we will visit again when we are in the area! Sorry I didn’t get pictures of the burgers. They were so good I ate it before I remembered to take a photo!

I’ve wanted to try other menu items but can’t get past the “Tri Tip Rib-eye Burger.” One of the best burgers I’ve ever experienced especially with an egg on top and a pretzel bun. Our server Evelyn was amazing and the most personable waitress we have ever had. The only negative was an overcharge by the older lady barkeep. An intervention by the manager remedied that situation.

We sat in the patio to enjoy the weather. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful. The food was very good. I had the 80/20 burger and it was delicious. I highly recommend the onion rings. We got some ice cream and a root beer float as well. Only downside, I feel like the prices were in the high side.

First time eating here and it was incredible. I ordered the Ribeye burger and brussel sprouts and everything was great. Server couldn’t have been better if he tried.

We went there on Valentines Day and I think they had too kany reservations and stopped taking walkins too late but they made uo for the wait! They had complimentary cocktails and beer cheese available and all the staff was still super nice and did their best. They also ket you know from the start that it will take a while and didnt just let you wait. The food was also really good and the cocktails too! I would go back!

Highly recommend for anyone looking for great food especially the burgers. The burger and fries I had was delicious. I especially enjoyed fresh ingredients. Portions were satisfying, and presentation is great as you can see from the image. The staff were attentive and efficient. The ambiance was lively and clean. It feels like a great place for casual dinner.
