From the creamy hummus and perfectly crispy falafel to the warm, delicious fatayer, everything feels authentic and thoughtfully prepared. Nothing feels heavy, and the flavors are always balanced and comforting.
I also love the cozy atmosphere and how welcoming the staff is, which makes the whole experience even better. Balade is one of those spots you keep coming back to because you know it’s going to be good every time!
Highly recommend if you’re craving amazing Middle Eastern food in NYC
the service was quick and the servers were hospitable. the ambience was subtle yet bustling with fellow restaurant goers enjoying their food under the dim lights.
we went during restaurant week for a group of 3 so we split 3 separate appetizers and had our own entrees and dessert.
the mezze was the star of the show. we ordered the Baba ghanoush alongside the Muhammara and a salad i forget the name of. all were incredible with the Muhammara being the most notable. the flavors danced on our tongues. this all paired with the bread they serve each table had our mouths watering. the bread they serve was oddly my favorite part of the meal. so fresh, warm, and airy it tasted like a fresh hot cloud.
i ordered the beef kafta from the prix fix menu and it was juicy and flavorful. it was served with rice and a side of greens. my boyfriend had the chicken equivalent and the chicken was juicy and cooked well.
for dessert i had Knafeh, their pistachio cheese dish. it was also delicious but a little too cheesy. the crunch of pistachios paired incredibly well with it though.
The ambience of the restaurant is great with the music being low to allow conversation.
The service was great as well as the appetizer and dessert, however the main course which was the beef shawarma was very subpar. The beef was overcooked and tasted like it was drenched in lime juice and did not have any flavor whatsoever, the rice was good but the salad also tasted like it was drenched in lime juice. For the price and disappointing food it’s not worth it. Service was great tho
The night we went was a lively and fully packed restaurant primarily filled with people in their 20s (as are many places in the east village). There was a mix of groups as well as couples. The restaurant is small and the tables are very close together. There is outdoor seating but I wouldn’t recommend sitting outside as it is very busy.
The staff at the restaurant were all really lovely and that they wanted everyone to have a good experience. Our particular server seemed like he didn’t primarily work in that capacity and was filling in for a shortage, but overall the restaurant provided good service. The menu was a mix of small plates, platters, and appetizers. I really enjoyed the Fatoush salad as well as the falafel. The portions are fairly large by NYC standards.
Overall I enjoyed my experience. I would go back and I would recommend.
