Visiting from South Carolina and this place caught my eye while shopping at another store. I sure am glad I tried it. A great menu. I had a small avocado dip which was amazing along with a soft flour tortilla that was amazing! This place was a little pricey with lunch and drink including tip at $18 but the taste was well worth it! I highly recommend this place. The food is 5 stars!!

Mind blowing selection of very creative tacos! Really well thought out ingredients combinations. They run large and 2-3 at about $6 each does the trick.

Service very friendly, reasonably fast, counter-order with table-delivery. Seems like a good place to hang with your buds. Outdoor seating about 10 tables.

Will definitely return.

My husband Steve and I have been to this restaurant several times. We find there is quite a bit of variety. There are beef, pork, veggie, chicken, and shrimp tacos. I would give this restaurant five stars and am only giving it four because the food sometimes comes out cold and we have to send it back. It’s delicious when warm.
My Steve enjoys the beef tacos and breakfast tacos. I like the fried avocado taco, the breakfast taco made with brisket, and the chicken fajita taco.
I tried a chicken bowl and loved the rice. The air stream salad is tasty and I enjoy the avocado.
My Steve and I enjoy side dishes. I like the quacamole with chips and the Mexican rice. My husband prefers the tater tots.

From Steve
And the wait staff there, especially the manager Calandria, are warm and accommodating.
And if the doesn’t always come out hot, when ordered, the manager or another staff member, will gladly make it warmer. This is why we go there.
From Jackie
The prices are between five and twelve dollars so it’s a good place to go if you are on a budget.
Now I need to revise my four star into a two star review. Because the food never comes out hot. I read another review by a Yelp writer who said that he gave a three star review because he and three of his party were served cold food. He said he couldn’t recommend this restaurant because he is not sure the temperature for hot food is safe.
Well almost every time we my husband and I go to Torchys my food comes out cold and I have to send it back. There is only one other restaurant I reviewed where we had this problem and that was New York Deli in Cary Town. There I was told it’s illegal in Virginia for a restaurant to have a microwave on the premises.
In our home state of New Jersey we never had this problem because restaurants there use microwaves.
But here in the Richmond Virginia Glen Allen area many eateries or rather those who own them seem to have a personal vendetta against microwaves.
My Steve and I are good cooks. If we reheat leftovers of a dish we’ve cooked it doesn’t take away from the quality of the food. When I make a pot of soup and we have to reheat our portions in our microwave it doesn’t take away the flavor of my delicious homemade soup it just makes it hot . They have lost two good customers my husband and I.
From Steve
I have the opposite problem. I order the breakfast taco eggs potatoes and cheese and the tater tots. I say plain tots and no spice or salsa on the taco just eggs potatoes and cheese. The last three times we were there I got salsa on my taco and bacon and spice on my taco. My wife is super specific she says no spice, no salsa no pico de Gallo.
When I spoke to the manager Calandria she blamed my wife for the food not being hot she said my Jackie needs to eat the food as soon as it gets to the table.
This restaurant needs a microwave. Then when food isn’t hot enough and gets sent back all a kitchen staff member has to do is put it in the microwave for two minutes and then it will go back to the customer hotter than when it was first brought to the table. We will not be coming any time soon.
From Jackie
I will the staff especially Adam and Jeffrey who are so warm and friendly. One day my Steve and I had a disagreement and I cried. It’s rare for us to disagree let alone in public. But not one staff person made me feel conspicuous.
But the cooks need to pay attention. Food needs to be made hot enough and orders need to be prepared the way customers order them.

I’m so happy to see Torchy’s in Virginia. I was introduced to Torchy’s when living in Austin, TX and dearly missed it after moving. You can throw a dart at the menu and the taco is going to be awesome. There is also a monthly rotating taco of the month that, so far, have been excellent options. Apart from the excellent tacos, the Hillbilly Queso is a family favorite. Portion wise, I’m a big eater, and two tacos will fill you up…especially if you get some queso too. Beer, wine, and mixed drinks are available and generally a very good selection; my wife is very fond of their sangria. If you haven’t tried elevated street tacos, give Torcy’s a chance.

Jeffery at the register was great!!!! He thoroughly explained everything for our first time. Though we were told everything was made to order, most of our tacos were COLD. Additionally we ordered a mocktail that we had to request for twice and still never received. One of the two managers then proceeds to explain their bartender is new which is irrelevant information as a customer and only shows customers lack of management. Definitely would not come back.

I stopped in for quick margarita (ok I got 2) and everything was great! Margaritas made just right, cowboy queso hit the spot and the staff are great! Rhianna (cashier) & Louis (bartender) took care of me. They are social, friendly and accommodating to your needs. The manager is also great! He assisted me with a few things. I’m a Texan, so I’m happy to have Torchies here.

There is no wifi,
So that was disappointing.

Before I talk about the food, I have to mention the staff. Everyone is so friendly and attentive. You want for nothing while you’re here. Never have to ask for a refill, if you run low on chips, they bring you more, they check on you to make sure you’re happy but not overly so. I have been at this and the Midlothian location several times and both the food and service are consistently excellent. The restaurant is open concept with a bar area, table seating as well as a patio area with umbrellas. The bar is nicely stocked and they specialize in fresh squeezed margaritas and vodka lemonade. The green chile queso is a must have and signature item. You really cannot select a bad burrito or taco. I believe I have tried almost every option so far. There is a happy hour Monday through Friday from 3-6pm where tacos are $1 off, $2 off certain drinks and $1.50 off beers. Restaurant is always clean and well cared for. You owe it to yourself to visit Torchys.

Can’t go wrong coming here. The staff is always friendly with large genuine smiles and the food is incredible with a large selection for anyone. Add to the fact that everything comes out quickly and directly to your table. But let’s not forget that this is also a bar without the “bar” stigma. You can come here and get a reasonable priced drink, be social, meet new people, and leave full. Few places really bring what Torchy’s brings and this specific location has it down to an art.

The short version: my wife and I drive 1.5-2hrs depending on traffic to come here specifically and we make plans around our lunch.

Good service is hard to come by these days. Jeffrey greeted us with a smile was very informative about the menu and even came out and checked on us while we were eating. His customer service went above and beyond what we expected and did not go unoticed. Thanks for making our quick lunch and enjoyable one. Oh and the food was tasty too.

So glad we found Torchy’s- their food is so flavorful and delicious! Their sauces are really tasty, some spicy some not. I love the Roja sauce and will typically request it on my tacos. Been back 3 times in two weeks! If you haven’t tried it yet you should!
