Stopped by for breakfast during a break from work and it was absolutely amazing. The food was delicious, the staff were polite and welcoming, and the whole atmosphere transformed my 30 minute break into a little holiday by the sea. Highly recommend!

The location of the Coast Inn and atmosphere are the highlights of this venue and the main reasons for such many great reviews. The venue itself is well kept and organized too. The food is ok, nothing special (the full English breakfast was pretty good while the smoked salmon ciabatta was just a sandwich no better than what I could’ve picked up in a grocery store). Service could be better but I guess it’s acceptable by British standards (there was no service table when we visited which meant I had to get up and go to the bar for every need, whether it was to ask for condiments, for extra napkins or a glass of water which inevitably disrupted the dining experience).

We had a very tasty lunch before heading home. Food was of good quality but could do with a bit more seasoning.

Venue: The Coast Inn

We visited West Mersea and by accident came across The Coast Inn; what a find.
We both had skate the size of a big plate. I’ve never left fish but although it was so very tasty I couldn’t. Manage it all.
The staff were friendly and efficient.
The ambience is pleasant and the decor is interesting.
There is a good selection of beer.
The loos are spotless.
Thank you Hayley for your friendly service.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch today as usual. We’d booked for a later time but arrived early because we were concerned about high tide on the causeway. It was absolutely no problem and we were seated immediately. We always really enjoy coming here and I had two specials: the carrot and parsnip soup which was delicious then the haddock which was huge and delicious, taking home what little I left. Rice pudding and a liqueur ‘floaty’ coffee. My husband had mackerel pate, Goan prawn curry and rice which smelt delicious, then sticky toffee pudding. We were so lucky with the weather and enjoyed a stroll along the ‘front’ and soaking up the sun on a bench. As ever, the restaurant staff couldn’t be more helpful. I read the review about seasoning but for me, I don’t like too much pre-seasoning which is a very much a personal issue anyway. Looking forward to our next visit!

Nice place but I tend to agree with other reviewers that even on a Monday night it was just too busy. Had the seafood chowder as a starter, which was excellent and then waited almost an hour for the mains (57 minutes).
Was also slightly disappointed after such a long wait that my triple cooked chips were brown and a little burned. Other members of our party got a different fresh batch.
The food is good and it’s a lovely place with a nice ambience but we paid over £102 for a starter, 3 mains and 1 dessert with a bottle of wine and I feel it ought to be nearer to perfect for that.

Great place to visit. Carpark is quite small so we ended up in the pay and display about 100 yes down the road. ( 1 hour free parking). Food was excellent as was the service.

Great place, great vibe. Just lucky to get a table for lunch but very busy, would book next time. You can bring your doggy if eating downstairs or outside. Menu simple but to the points. Had fish of the day, it was massive & so tasty. Kids enjoyed their kids meals. Staff v nice. Would come back 100%

What a lovely find. We parked by the church in town and a shop owner recommended the Coast Inn. It was a pleasant short 15 minute walk away. We werent disappointed. The place had a lovely feel and the staff were really pleasant. I think we were lucky to find an empty table. The menu looked so good so we ordered 2 courses each. If you want a meat pie filled to the brim with beef then visit The Coast Inn. Lovely staff, lovely food & lovely atmosphere. We’ll def be back.

Had a lovely little lunch here today. I had the soup of the day, Carrot and Chilli which definitely had a nice little kick. Good atmosphere and views from the upstairs terrace.
