Family owned, locally operated southern style BBQ restaurant. Dine-In, Take- Out, Catering, Food Truck!! Charlie Brank retired early from building boats- opening Brank’s BBQ with his young family and wife Lori, in downtown Sumner in late 1995. He passed away in 2018, but his three children, Jessica, Sarah and Preston continue his dream, making his vision theirs. Today we operate north of town, in the industrial area. May all who enter leave as friends! Thank you for your business and support.

4 stars because the service was very slow and it took them 15 minutes to come back to get our order and it was not busy.
That said, I USED TO rave about this establishment. When previously asked about knowing any good local barbecue spots, I would enthusiastically recommend Brank’s- hands down.
Fast forward to today. I decided to splurge because I had some good news, and treat myself to some bbq. I say splurge because unfortunately, my one small meal shown in the pictures, cost me $55.00? The meat was so dry, in some places it’s actually petrified.
And on top of the sub par quality of food and price being outrageous, check out the photos of the side dishes. For $50, you couldn’t give me a full serving???? Or a drink??
Also, there was a substantial amount of fat on the brisket
And the cherry on top, before leaving I’m asking the cashier if she had put forks and knives and whatnot in there and she swore to me up and down that they were and they most certainly were not in the bag?
I could probably look past most of this stuff but the price tag on top of it all? I probably won’t be back again and I certainly will not be recommending it ever again. 🙁
Props to the food coming out quickly but it seemed like it had just been sitting under heat lamps and was not entirely fresh.
This place is not “honest to goodness” Southern style bbq. Have the owners even been to the South and tried their bbq? Learning from Paul Kirk, a Kansas City bbq legend, is incredibly different than learning from a Southern bbq chef. Two very different bbq styles!
I ordered the brisket and pulled pork combo while my wife had the brisket macaroni and cheese.
The brisket and the pulled pork were extremely dry. The brisket had been cut a long while before being served and sat there being starved of its juices and warmth.
The Mac and cheese was very salty. Like abnormally salty. I’m not sure how that was achieved.
My coleslaw was mostly a pool of juice, however the general taste was sweet and pleasant.
This restaurant wasn’t for me, but it could be for you!! At least give them a try.
#1 ask for napkins before you can’t get the waitresses attention again as you get one singular napkin. Their napkins are not bbq friendly, they stick and shred on your hands.
This is a BBQ restaurant not a BBQ joint so it’s sit down and order and you will spend $20+ a person. They do have a create your own, but it ends up being more than their preassigned dishes.
Their BBQ meats have a specific taste that was okay, but almost off-putting? Maybe it’s a Washington flavor. It’s definitely not Southern BBQ if that’s your point of reference when coming here for the first time like it was for me.
I wasn’t a fan of the instrumental only music.
I really enjoyed the ribs the best, tender, juicy, and nice and meaty. Reminded me of good old MIDWEST barbecue. Went well with all the nice potluck foods, potato salad, Coleslaw, sweet Hawaiian buns, etc.
After this experience, I would love to make a trip to their restaurant. Try all their selections. Always enjoy great barbecue food. Give them a try.
