Great bbq off 167 in Sumner. Easy parking and a small but great selection of bbq. Two bbq sauces at the table, both delicious. Price is what you’d expect for good bbq.
4 stars because the service was very slow and it took them 15 minutes to come back to get our order and it was not busy.

I’m from the greater Seattle Tacoma area. I would consider myself to be well versed and knowledgeable regarding local dining options.

That said, I USED TO rave about this establishment. When previously asked about knowing any good local barbecue spots, I would enthusiastically recommend Brank’s- hands down.

Fast forward to today. I decided to splurge because I had some good news, and treat myself to some bbq. I say splurge because unfortunately, my one small meal shown in the pictures, cost me $55.00? The meat was so dry, in some places it’s actually petrified.

And on top of the sub par quality of food and price being outrageous, check out the photos of the side dishes. For $50, you couldn’t give me a full serving???? Or a drink??

Also, there was a substantial amount of fat on the brisket

And the cherry on top, before leaving I’m asking the cashier if she had put forks and knives and whatnot in there and she swore to me up and down that they were and they most certainly were not in the bag?

I could probably look past most of this stuff but the price tag on top of it all? I probably won’t be back again and I certainly will not be recommending it ever again. 🙁

Texan born and raised. This was not Texas bbq and barely Southern style. There was hardly any flavor in the spice rub on the chicken, brisket, and baby back ribs we got. No smoke ring whatsoever on the brisket. The ribs were tough and fought like hell to come off the bone. Brisket and chicken were both really dry. Don’t love how the meat came out all stacked in top of each other. No white bread, pickles, or onions were served with the meat, which is a quintessential texas bbq aspect. The Mac and cheese was decent. Cowboy beans are not common in Texas, or really the South for that matter. Literally had never heard of cowboy beans till I moved to Washington. Corn muffin was way too sweet! Literally a corn cupcake. Sweetest corn muffin I’ve ever had.

Props to the food coming out quickly but it seemed like it had just been sitting under heat lamps and was not entirely fresh.

This place is not “honest to goodness” Southern style bbq. Have the owners even been to the South and tried their bbq? Learning from Paul Kirk, a Kansas City bbq legend, is incredibly different than learning from a Southern bbq chef. Two very different bbq styles!

I wanted badly to like Branks BBQ, but had a very sub-par meal.

I ordered the brisket and pulled pork combo while my wife had the brisket macaroni and cheese.

The brisket and the pulled pork were extremely dry. The brisket had been cut a long while before being served and sat there being starved of its juices and warmth.

The Mac and cheese was very salty. Like abnormally salty. I’m not sure how that was achieved.

My coleslaw was mostly a pool of juice, however the general taste was sweet and pleasant.

Delicious food with meat cooked quickly over open coals in true Texas style. Inside there’s a pleasant atmosphere, and a couple of picnic tables are set up outside by the entrance. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Overall, a great stop for a tasty meal and a relaxing break.

I mean, beef brisket… I have to say in all honesty this is probably the driest crustiest and coldest brisket that I’ve ever had. At about $40 a pound I expect a little more. To their credit it was at 6:30 PM. Probably sat under a hot lamp for most of the day. I get it you sell what you can hope they eat it. Pulled pork was edible, but I give it about a 6 out of 10. They might just need to do more to make fresh food in the evening time. I did live in the south for a decade and I know what barbecue should taste like so maybe that’s the problem. Anyway, I’m not from here so I’ll probably never be back. Seems like they had some good reviews. Maybe it was a bad day anyway good luck.

This is a family run business so that’s always a plus to support the community!
This restaurant wasn’t for me, but it could be for you!! At least give them a try.
#1 ask for napkins before you can’t get the waitresses attention again as you get one singular napkin. Their napkins are not bbq friendly, they stick and shred on your hands.
This is a BBQ restaurant not a BBQ joint so it’s sit down and order and you will spend $20+ a person. They do have a create your own, but it ends up being more than their preassigned dishes.
Their BBQ meats have a specific taste that was okay, but almost off-putting? Maybe it’s a Washington flavor. It’s definitely not Southern BBQ if that’s your point of reference when coming here for the first time like it was for me.
I wasn’t a fan of the instrumental only music.

Might be a great local joint if you have no other BBQ option, but we found 3 plates of (very) overcooked ribs, tri-tip and brisket. We asked for “moist” brisket and got the flat anyway, so maybe they didn’t know what we were talking about. The cowboy beans were super sweet, as was the BBQ sauce, but I did enjoy the spicy version. Mac & Cheese was super standard boring – definitely made for the kids. Corn bread was dried out and mostly unenjoyable. The sides were very small (maybe 4oz?) for $20+ platters, and the entire meal was very expensive for what we actually got. Seems like they count on the locals to stay afloat, but this place definitely can’t compete with Jack’s or Moose Creek BBQ… Especially because of their super high prices.. $116 for three mediocre BBQ plates and 3 iced teas?!?! Yikes!!

Well, I have never eaten in their restaurant in Sumner, WA. But I had the opportunity to have the pleasure of experiencing their delicious meats (BBQ chicken , pulled pork, and their ribs) Some church friends of mine that live on the south end of Lake Tapps/Bonny Lake area, had a Potluck party fellowship on there property. They went and picked up the food (THE MEAT, ) They themselves my friends) have eaten there barbeque many times.
I really enjoyed the ribs the best, tender, juicy, and nice and meaty. Reminded me of good old MIDWEST barbecue. Went well with all the nice potluck foods, potato salad, Coleslaw, sweet Hawaiian buns, etc.
After this experience, I would love to make a trip to their restaurant. Try all their selections. Always enjoy great barbecue food. Give them a try.
