Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes. For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger. The term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business. Today, Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.

Stopped by Steak ’n Shake for a simple patriotic shake. That’s it. No food, no complicated order — just one shake. Somehow that turned into a full sit-down dining experience worth of waiting. I genuinely had time to reconsider my life choices while standing there.
It wasn’t busy, no chaos, no obvious reason for the delay. Just me… waiting… for blended ice cream. The shake was fine, but not “worth aging several years in the lobby” fine.
If a single shake takes this long, I’m scared to see what happens if I order fries.
I ordered a buttery Wisconsin Cheeseburger combo with pickles and lettuce, with no onions.
The top bun was cold, and the inside was covered with a chunk of cold butter! I showed the worker, and he told me it didn’t melt because I ordered it without grilled onions. Would avoid this place!! Terrible everything…
This place has an eerie, otherworldly atmosphere.
