We stopped in on a recommendation from a local. First we noticed location was ticked away and cute and small. Then we were seated by the window and chatted to the couple next to us about their dessert right before they left (they loved the blueberry cheesecake)
They were out of tap beers for some reason so we got an efes and sparkling water. Can’t mess those up.
Tostaditas we got for all was delish. Fresh and flavorful. There was 3.
For dinner we both agreed our sole and lamb was overly salted and not the best we have had. My first bite of fish had a TON of bones but I think it was the tail and as I atelier there was none.
We were full afterwards to opted out of dessert.
Service was great- friendly and efficient.
We are from out of town and probably don’t feel the need to return.

Fishwife for starters, is tucked away from the ocean along Sunset Drive, offering up a beautiful breath of Pacific fresh air!
The seafood is perfectly prepared and mouthwateringly delicious. The menu prices reflect excellent value.
With a full bar, child’s plates, gluten free and classic fish choices, there are plenty of enjoyable and satisfying options.
The light, bright natural seaside ambiance boasts turquoise accents, wide windows and a rustic stone wall, all wrapped up in a relaxing atmosphere.
We loved visiting this intimate restaurant and will again, next time we find ourselves coasting blissfully along the 17 Mile Drive near Monterey.

I hope this place can take any perceived criticism constructively and make a positive change. The staff are friendly and the drinks were good. I see the potential for this place to be great, but there were some serious food safety concerns I had while dining there. Hair was found in one dish and another tasted rancid. I also would like to encourage them to try making their own sauces, upon leaving the restaurant I noticed an empty box of Rao’s brand sauce outside in their dumpster area. For a place trying to be somewhat upscale I expected the sauce to at least be made in house.

I’ve been going here for 20 plus years and the seafood was always the best. My fiancé and I loved the clam chowder, along with many of the other dishes. I was there in 2022 and their fresh baked bread bowl, and clam chowder was the best! Unfortunately now in my opinion, the food is deteriorated greatly. The clam chowder had an odd sour taste. The bread bowls tasted like a typical store-bought sourdough bread bowl, and overpriced. I didn’t finish mine, due to the odd taste, and I won’t be back, greatly disappointed! The water was good though!

My wife and I stopped here after watching the sunset at the beach. It was crowded, and disorganized. It took almost 15min just to get on the waiting list. About 20min later we were seated at a makeshift and drafty table by the door, and directly in the main serving pathway. Our server, though friendly, was inattentive and could not answer our menu questions; (Are there chunks of crab meat in the crab cakes? Are the cocktails pre-mixed?). We opted to try two signature cocktails and the crab-cake starter. Both were beyond disappointing. After all the waiting and fuss, we opted to close out our bill, ($85 for two cocktails and an appetizer), and have dinner elsewhere. I think they try here, but they miss the mark. Frozen food, line-cook cafeteria preparation and taste, over-sweetened, under flavored packaged cocktails. Two stars feels generous, but we didn’t get food poisoning, so there’s that. There are many better options nearby. It’s too bad this place can’t live up to its location.

Booked for last minute lunch. We had the Shrimp cleopatra and the barramundi. Both were surprisingly good. Fish was flaky and perfectly cooked. Everything felt fresh and well seasoned. Restaurant has a local family run vibe to it, service was friendly. Overall recommend for anyone coming back from a walk along the coastal front in pacific grove

An unassuming place with delicious food and fine service. Our fish was perfectly prepared in proper portions. Not huge Cheesecake Factory, not tiny Spagos. The prices were appropriate for finer dining like this – $130 for two people, appetizer, one glass of wine and two desserts. Oh, and the Key Lime and pecan pies were delectable.

Hidden gem for SURE. Fish Wife is off the main road and I am glad for it because it means that this place is not at all crowded during the week or in the off-season. They have a seasonal beverage, main course, and dessert menu that will always have something yummy. My Favorite is a their classic seafood combo Alfredo! It has crabmeat, scallops big and small, shrimps big and small, and homemade linguine pasta. Their clam chowder is also delicious but be mindful that it’s on the thicker side and more like a chowder. It’s packed with fresh herbs and tasty but will fill you up as an appetizer! Please stop and visit here – it will be well worth the trip!

Way overpriced for what we were served
Very skimpy piece of Sea Bass with 3 lobster ravioli (I think – was hard to tell how many since the bulk of the dish was a sauce) and two tiny pieces of broccoli which they called “mixed vegetables”. The sea bass had a fishy smell – it was one of the daily specials. My husband’s halibut was much better but more mashed potatoes than halibut. Each dish was over $40. Never going to order their daily specials again bc we felt ripped off. Next time we’ll stay with the regular menu.
I would like to edit this to ask why I’m being called a “local guide” – I’m not even local, let alone a guide.

My friends and I stopped here after a long walk at the beach and we were not disappointed. The food is incredible. I would recommend:
– Crab burger (go Cajun)
– Fishwife Tostada Salad (go Cajun)
Sit outside on a nice day, but consider sun screen if you’re not in the shade.
