This was our first trip to Cayman and Mario’s.
To begin with I made the reservation roughly a week ahead of time. It was my wife and our 2.5 year-old daughter. I emailed with the restaurant and spoke with Lindsay. I run a business and if this restaurant was where I am from I would be attempting to poach this employee. Finding someone who responds this quickly and intelligently is almost unheard of these days. I was emailing to confirm that children were allowed there and we discussed eating inside or out.
We arrived at the restaurant and as it was relatively empty (we were there quite early in the evening) we decided to eat inside. The first hiccup we encountered was that despite emailing that we were bringing our toddler the restaurant had no high-chair or booster seat. They did accommodate us a little bit and allowed us to sit at a booth with a bench seat so our daughter could sit on a decorative pillow.
The highlight of the whole evening was our server, Jenna. She was clearly an extremely professional server who knew her craft. At the same time she was human and kind to us. Our daughter has eaten at multiple Michelin star restaurants but at the end of the day she is 2. I truly cannot use enough superlatives to compliment Jenna, she is a rockstar!
The food was incredible as well. Easily the best we had on the island. In our travels in the Caribbean we have been overall unimpressed with the food when compared to fine dining in Europe or bigger cities in America. Mario’s was the exception. This is a restaurant that could stand on its own in a city like Chicago going up against serious heavy hitters. Of the 5 courses we tried the two standouts were the main fish course and the desert. I am a bit of a sauce fanatic and the Velouté sauce served with the fish was the best I have ever had. I respect that it was served in a separate little server to allow you to sauce to your preference. That said, it is the mark of a confident chef that can put a “mother sauce” on its own on a plate. Bravo!
So what holds it back from being a perfect experience. One individual. The maître d’hôtel was so pompous and arrogant. He seemed utterly disgusted that we were there with a toddler. I understand that he is the head of staff of the front of house but I did not appreciate the way he spoke to the other servers. To be a truly top class restaurant The service needs to match the food. Again, Jenna was superb! I do not care if you are a roadside taco stand or The French Laundry in California. Going out to a restaurant should feel welcoming and fun. At a fine dining restaurant there is actually a position that exists to make sure that happens-the maître d’hôtel. He seemed extremely competent but needs a semi-sized load of humble pie and humanity and this restaurant could be star worthy.
I’d honestly come here several times a week if I could. The menu changes daily, which makes every visit exciting. If you’re visiting the Cayman Islands, this spot is a must. I was disappointed with every other recommendation I received here, but Mario’s completely redeemed the dining scene for me.

From: James Morris & Family
Our family was treated to an exceptional evening at Mario’s—truly some of the finest food and service we’ve experienced on the island in the last 25 years. Every aspect of the night was thoughtfully executed, from the quality of the cuisine to the impeccable service.
The staff was attentive without being intrusive, and every detail—both large and small—was clearly well planned. Even areas often overlooked, like the restrooms and dining room presentation, reflected the same level of care and excellence.
This experience was Michelin-quality in both food and hospitality. Mario’s will absolutely become a regular rotation for our family moving forward. Highly recommended.

Each course was a culinary masterpiece, showcasing the Chef’s talent and creativity. From the appetizer to the dessert, every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. It was evident that the Chef took great care in selecting the finest ingredients and brilliantly crafted each dish.
What impressed me the most was how well the restaurant accommodated my gluten allergy. From offering modified dish to suit my needs to ensuring that my meal was prepared in safe environment, they went above and beyond to ensure that I could enjoy the dining experience without worries on compromising the taste or quality.
The wine pairings were also exceptional, enhancing the flavors of each course and adding an extra layer of sophistication to the meal. The Sommerlier’s recommendations perfectly complemented the dishes, elevating the dining experience to a new heights.
Overall, it was a dining experience that exceeded my expectations in every way. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable meal with top-notch service and exceptional food quality.
Definitely, Mario’s restaurant is worth the price you, the finest on the Island!
From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed warmly by Marco, and later by Mario himself. We were introduced to Ricardo, the wonderful sommelier who curated our wine parings for the evening, and Katerina, our server who explained all of the dishes we were served with consummate professionalism.
We chose the 5-course meal with wine pairings and have to say that every course was delectable, and the wine pairings were perfect. We were able to explore wines we’ve never tried before, with excellent narrative from Ricardo on the wine region, varietal, winery history, etc. We felt like we took a tour of Italy, Spain and France, and learned so much about the wine, and why he chose the pairings.
If you love good wine, good food, and amazing service, Mario’s is the place for you. We were treated like royalty by the entire staff, and Ricardo treated us like family. I feel like we made a new friend over an amazing dinner, and I will definitely be sure to visit Mario’s any time I am in Grand Cayman!
This would be the perfect place for an amazing special date night…an experience they would remember forever.
