The experience at L’Ostrica didn’t live up to the expectations set by the reputation or the price point. The plating was exquisite and most dishes were very good, but several missed the mark with off flavors that felt unexpected—and not in a good way.
The wine selection was spectacular, cocktails were exquisite, and the service was excellent throughout the evening. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely welcoming, which made the experience feel warm and inviting.
Unfortunately, the food itself didn’t justify the cost. It felt like more emphasis was placed on presentation and descriptive flair than on delivering standout flavor. At a lower price point I’d be far less critical, but when a restaurant positions itself—and charges—for excellence, the food needs to deliver on that promise.
I was truly happy to give L’Ostrica a try and came in excited, especially given the strong reputation. While I appreciated the hospitality and service, the overall culinary execution fell short for me.

We went on 12/28 for their Sunday Supper and had a great experience. The five-course meal took about 2 hours and 15 minutes and never felt rushed or drawn out—each course was nicely timed. Service was excellent, and the ambiance was warm and inviting. One of the co-owners, Cat, was there that evening and was very friendly and personable, which added a nice personal touch.

Our 11-year-old son was the only child there that night, and the staff made him feel welcome, which we appreciated.

Be sure to check the website for the Sunday menu since it changes often, and note that reservations are required. Full payment, including a 20% gratuity, is charged to your credit card at the time of booking; the only charges the night of the meal are for any drinks you order.

There’s a nearby parking garage with three hours of free parking, which is convenient. We really enjoyed the experience and look forward to returning.

How do they not have a Michelin star yet? We traveled to NYC twice this year and visited two Michelin restaurants (Atera & Per Se) and the tasting menu here was totally on par. In my humble opinion, the owners should consider taking Haymaker’s space in uptown. That beautiful space is much more worthy of this incredible food. Could charge more per person easily. Thank you for a memorable experience and exceptional food!

We celebrated my birthday at L’Ostrica with the six course tasting menu and I was blown away! Every course was delicious and so creative! The cocktails we tried were so yummy! The pamplemousse spritz was the best! The entire staff was so knowledgeable and sweet. They made my birthday so special and sent us home with a copy of the menu, a handwritten note, and madeleines! Will absolutely celebrate with them in the future!

An absolutely incredible meal at L’ostrica on par with Michelin star restaurants we’ve dined at. The service was friendly and flawless. We had the 6 course tasting menu and two of us did the mocktail pairing and one the wine pairing. Jenny was incredibly knowledgeable about every wine paired with the meal and the mocktails were unique and delicious. The food was the best we’ve had in Charlotte and we are looking forward to going back. Tasting menu requires reservations but there is also a bar menu we saw was popular while we dined.

Thoughtful designed menu and great balance between farm to table ingredients and internationally inspired cuisine.

The lamb was impressive and the best one I had in Charlotte. Overall the use of herbs and spices was good. The first two we had were a bit salty, and the chef corrected the taste after we shared the opinion. Being a tasting menu, we did expect some level of creativity which was mostly presented by the ravioli and dessert.
Cocktails were awesome. We did not get wine pairing, but the cocktail added a punch of flavor to the dining experience.

Our server introduced every dish in a nice way and was knowledgeable about the menu.

Reservations required for tasting menus but walk in acceptable at the bar for a la carte. Free parking. It’s fine dining but a rather casual atmosphere.

By far the best tasting menu I’ve ever enjoyed. The active service was amazing and the space/music was just loud enough to create a lively and fun ambiance. Our experience was comparable to that of a michelin star restaurant. Highly, HIGHLY recommend.

We had an incredible meal here! The tasting menu and wine pairing is 100% worth it – such fun and delicious dishes and thoughtful wine pairings, plus getting sent home with freshly made cookies and a printed menu of our courses in a goody bag. Cat, one of the owners, checked on us multiple times throughout the night and ensured we had a wonderful time. Thank you for an amazing night, we will be back!

Absolutely flawless dinner. Every dish had a high level of flavor. Staff was knowledgeable about where each ingredient came from. We have a ridiculous amount of allergies and they were able (and happy) to accommodate each one and they did not mess up one time (very hard to execute). Timing of plating was perfect. We appreciated the chef coming out to plate one of the dishes. The setting is quiet and elevated. The price for a 10-course meal is well-justified. If hesitant between the 5 or 10, I would recommend that you do the 10 as it was worth it. We left feeling very full.

To compare, I’d say that this is close to a 1-star Michelin restaurant. It’s not white table-cloth and I didn’t see a cleaning of the table in-between dishes (but re-plating was done well). Local comparisons: The dishes were more elegant than McNinch and Fig Tree. They were more flavorful/memorable than Fig Tree but perhaps similar to McNinch with a little more creativity. Better value than McNinch though.

If there’s one area for improvement it’s the wine by the glass list. We felt it to be a little limited. Would’ve liked to have seen something a little creative on there like an Orange as well.
