We were in downtown Topeka around lunch time and decided to try Nauling’s. A very nice and personable lady greeted us and since we were new, she took time to show us the menu and we discussed items. Since I rarely see catfish on the menu I decided on Catfish and my wife had the smoked Mac n Cheese with pulled pork.
Both items were quickly delivered to our table and right away we were pleased with our choices. The attached pictures will show how delicious both meals looked and the presentation was spot on. All I can say is that the Catfish was perfectly cooked and the fries were hot and excellent. I have never had fries like this and they were a thick curly fry like a steak fry but with a twist in it. I picked an additional side and had collard greens and they finished off an excellent tasty meal. My wife was very pleased with her choice and she said the Mac n cheese had a good smokey flavor and the pulled pork was excellent too.
We will definitely be back and will be checking for what the daily special is and the next time I want to try the smothered pork chops.
If you are traveling down I 70 then this would be a great stop due to the good food and it is a few blocks from the interstate.

It pains me to share this review. Firstly, when I got there, they were out of many of the key items I wanted: ribs, brisket, potato salad, baked beans. My fault completely as I didn’t show up until 2pm. They did have pulled pork, hot links, coleslaw and greens which is what I ordered.
Was told the wait would be 20 minutes however it was more like 10.
Portions were small.
Coleslaw was DRY AF and tasteless.
Pulled pork was HONESTLY about 70%fat.
Sausage was dry.
Greens were definitely not cooked with any sort of meat and were not seasoned AT ALL.
To top it all off, the “Texas” toast was not toasted, nor buttered.
HOPEFULLY I came in on an off day for them, but I doubt it as EVERYTHING was subpar to put it as nicely as I can.
I’m heartbroken as I’m from Texas and was excited to get a taste of home again. I was bitterly disappointed.
HONEST REVIEW-DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER.

You can smell the meat smoking on the grille as you walk up, I knew this would be a solid spot. The owners are cooking and preparing the food themselves. The brisket and pulled pork were amazing and the Mac + cheese was the best I’ve ever had. If you’re local or passing through, def worth a stop!

Chicken breast and the bbq sauce that came with it was good. The sides that were subbed in for what was sold out were ok. Had order to-go but the bread, side order of cornbread, and 2nd added side were all missing. Thankfully we didn’t drive too far away so ran back in to get the missing items, I probably should have double checked first.
Was an Online order at 1pm on a Friday when we went to pickup, so it was busy and the reason why a decent number of the meats and sides were sold out. The owners were really nice so I’ll probably try and stop back in to try the jambalaya and greens

I really want to support, no jerk flavor or sauce, no seasoning hope it gets better I tend to put the taste against Atlanta jamaican food. We will try other items.
-Not a very nice response there was no jerk flavor at all chicken was dry and I just want my meal to match your advertising I also see you respond so much nicer to others than myself we were also considering coming back to try other items but apparently we’re not the “right type of customer” good luck but portion size and flavor take factor when attempting to cook jamaican food.

This place made my heart so happy after a long and rough week! True soul/comfort food. Ordered the catfish special and the catfish was so tender with a perfectly crunchy coating. The hush puppies and sidewinder fries were divine. I am a big foodie, but it’s not too often that I can say that every bit of the meal was so superb and delicious. I will be back to try your BBQ soon. The lady taking orders was working so hard and had such a great attitude, awesome service. Thanks Nauling’s!

I’ve tried Nauling’s a couple times now before reviewing, and I love it. Killer food, it is so good! Even today I was late on stopping for lunch? Ordering BBQ at 1:30pm on a Friday means you might just miss out! Thats a normal thing with local independent restaurants. I still wanted whatever they could put together, and it did not disappoint! Brisket was fantastic. I recommend the baked beans and yams for the sides. Yams are like dessert! Owners are super nice and a wonderful addition to Topeka. If you haven’t tried this spot yet, I’d highly recommend it. Better than all our chains we have here. I’ll keep coming back!

Some of the best brisket I’ve had in a while. Beautifully moist, good smoke ring, and excellent smoke flavor. I almost didn’t need any barbecue sauce, but their spicy sauce was a good compliment when I dipped in a bite or two.
They were testing out a peach cobbler cookie, so I got a freebie on that one, and it was fantastic.
I can only hope my travels take me back through Topeka. If they do, I am most definitely eating here again. Please support this veteran-owned business!

My grandfather asked me to take him out for BBQ so I chose a random place off the google search as we are not from Topeka. Nauling’s was TOP TIER, and one of the best BBQ joints I have ate.. The chicken and ribs had a wonderful smoky flavor and the Mac was delicious. The two running the place were extremely friendly, and I was able to speak with them for awhile about their business. Clean and cozy atmosphere, friendly people, fair prices, AMAZING food. Will be making the drive to eat here again. 10/10 recommend. Can’t wait to try their soul food side of the menu next time.

We stopped for lunch – first of all, this place smelled delicious! We both ordered the jerk chicken platter special – I had the small and he had the regular. The chicken was tender and juicy and deliciously smoked with some kick! Every bite was well just the right balance of flavors with the chicken, rice and beans, cabbage and cornbread. The owner was really pleasant and you can tell she has a passion for making the food she serves. We split some sweet potato pie for dessert – the perfect meal and we both left happy and full.
